Mother Nature decides...

Yesterday was certainly an example of the variety Mother Nature provides. It was partly cloudy when we left the dock in the morning, heading for breakfast on Elk Island. Once at the island, we could see some ominous clouds over the mountains. The sound track for our breakfast experience included some rolling thunder, but it was all in the distance. Not bad at all by the time we were ready to reboard the cruise boats...

The late morning scenic cruise was scenic - mostly blue skies and calm water. The first afternoon cruise turned out to be less scenic and more of a white water ride...

Whitecaps and wind coming from three different directions; it made for some very confused 2 1/2 waves, closely spaced. We ran north to stay away from a cell with lightning. One guest said she saw a waterspout in the distance... I can't confirm that, I was busy dodging logs and debris in the water; we are now just over 100% for water level, so many of the logs that were at the shoreline are now floating. The guests were fine with the ride (I go by any "death grip" that I see when I look back in the boat), but by the time we got back to the marina, they had cancelled the next cruise. There was talk about cancelling the sunset cruise, but I suggested we wait and see (the captain has discretion to cancel). The weather changed once again and we had calm conditions for that cruise... even managed to see 2 sunsets (I can make that happen by getting close to the mountains) and two rainbows.

A very interesting weather day.

And now starting the first of our days off with some lounging... little Izzy really likes that.
