Printing from the iPad...

There has been more discussion about the iPad as a chartplotter on my favorite sailing forum again.  The media is full of articles about the new iPad Mini.  We are still using our original iPad... it came over on the Mayflower with the Pilgrims.  Yeah, I'm kidding.  It works fine for our needs.  One drawback has been the inability to print from the iPad; not a big deal, though.

When we got home two weeks ago, the Epson printer (all in one) we have been using for a couple years was all clogged up... printers don't like to sit for months at a time without being used.  It takes a BUNCH of ink to clean the printer nozzles.  Joan spent some time working on getting that printer to print decent again, and it was soon time for more ink... and it still wasn't printing legibly.

As you might know, the cost of printer ink makes gasoline and diesel seem like a real bargain.  It was cheaper to toss the old clogged up printer and buy a new Epson all-in-one that comes with full ink cartridges.  Yes, cheaper than buying just the ink for the old one.  The one that was still partially clogged up.  And the best bonus with the new one: it prints from the iPad.  Set up the printer, download the app, and we're good to go.  Easy.

Even our 4 generation old iPad is still going strong AND gets more functional as new apps are introduced.  Nice!
