laissez les bon temps rouler...

We missed Fat Tuesday in the French Quarter, but last night, the resort had some great live music: Zydeco... yeah, these folks were the real deal...

Some fine LA (no, not Los Angeles) music, complete with piano accordian and rub-board.  They blocked off the street in front of the office... good crowd, fun music.

This morning, we took a walk in the sunshine to the restaurant at the marina - they have a special for the RV park folks: two breakfasts for $8.99.  Real breakfasts (eggs, bacon, hash browns, and a pancake, with the emphasis on cake).  With a nice view of the marina.  I could get used to this place.

We fired up Big Red and headed north to see the waterfront area in San Diego.  They are revitalizing the Embarcadero along the waterfront, so there is some construction.  But, this is a beautiful city, and they understand the importance to tourism of that beautiful waterfront.

There are marinas that go on for what seems like miles...

Cruise ships, tall ships, excursion boats, oh my...

We cruised through the GasLamp (Historic Heart of San Diego) area...

Any kind of restaurant you could want, and plenty of good people-watching.  Unlike some of the bigger cities we have visited, it didn't seem like the local folks were trying extra hard to "be cool."

Some interesting architecture, too...

I had other plans for a late lunch/early supper: in the brochure from the RV park, one of the advertisers was... Shakey's Pizza.  We used to go to Shakey's back when we were dating in high school.  The one in the Black Hills closed up years ago, so we haven't had a Shakey's pizza in over a decade... it just seemed nostalgic (and "fun"... remember that: "We serve fun at Shakey's, also pizza!")...

We were looking for a grocery store on the way back; Joan found an Albertson's on her phone.  When we turned into the parking lot for Albertson's, she saw a Sprouts AND a Fresh & Easy right across the street!  Steph introduced us to those stores in Phoenix - we scrapped the big grocery store in favor of these... lots of good produce and baked goods... and my favorite: fresh cheese curds!

Yeah, we aren't going to go hungry here.  ;-)

A nice RV resort, pretty marina, great waterfront, and cheese curds - I think I could live here!

Yep - just the same! A bit of nostalgia. Truth be told, Joan's pizza is much better, though.
