Opening ceremony...

Opening ceremony this evening for the Havasu Pocket Cruisers Convention.  An enthusiastic group, over 200 boats, with folks from all over the country.  They got the crowd going with some rousing music and folks tossing out goodies to the crowd - Joan got a Com-Pac sailboat t-shirt (we used to have one, our SunCat).  An interesting keynote talk from a young lady who has been living on her 27' Nor'Sea - encouraging people to "live simply."  Yeah, I'm not ready to give up my chartplotter and radar just yet, but it was a nice way to open this gathering.

With hundreds of sailing folks here, the first people we met after coming into the convention center this evening was another C-Dory couple, Tony and Diane.  They also have a couple sailboats, and invited us for a ride later this week on the Montgomery 23 they brought.  Visited with some of my TSBB friends, Tim, Earl, Ron & Chari, and got to meet Nelson.

It is impressive how this gathering has grown in just 6 years... all these sailing folks drawn to a lake in the desert.  Of course, I think plenty of them are escaping the frozen northland.  Understandable. ;-)
