I really don't like motels...

Really.  There was a time we used to fly everywhere, rent a car, and stay in hotels.  I felt like we were traveling in style.  Then, we got into RVing... your own bed, kitchen, potty, satellite TV, all the snacks you like.  And, wherever you go, it is with you.

Motels and hotels have different beds.  Oh, not necessarily bad, but they aren't yours.  And you don't know who slept in it last.  They have different noises - especially when it comes to heat and air conditioning.

The motel we stayed in last night had a catalytic heater.  It made "interesting" noises - and by interesting, I mean: really damn annoying.  It was along the lines of sleeping in the practice room for a drum and bugle corps - it made awful popping noises all night long.  I think it was continuously trying to light.  So, I found myself waking up every 10 minutes to see if I had died from carbon monoxide poisoning... or if the heater had exploded, yet.  Neither occurred, but I was up all the time, checking.

Since we were both awake, we showered and left before 7:00.  Hey - this was fun: it got below freezing last night!  Seriously, frost on the windshield...

It's been a couple years since I've had to do that.  Yeah, I don't want to do it again.

For the first couple hours today, the terrain was typical eastern New Mexico...

By noon, we were in Gallup, and turned north.  The scenery got more interesting...

Today was a bit like vacations when we were a lot younger: not much time to stop, so enjoy the view through the windshield.  ;-)  We were looking to make some miles today.

Things picked up a bit as we cut the southwest corner of Colorado...

The roads were almost as bad as in New Mexico.  We stopped for lunch in Cortez, then kept rolling.  Initially, we considered stopping for the night in Moab, Utah... until we found out there was a BIG ATV/UTV gathering.  Four wheelers everywhere and scarce motel rooms at outrageous prices.  We pressed on.  We checked a couple places in Green River, Utah... full.  It was still reasonably early, so we made reservations in Price, Utah.

Along the way, we drove by Canyonlands National Park and Arches National Park... Utah has some beautiful parks.  No time to stop, but you could see some pretty stuff from the truck...

We have done these parks in the past, and promised ourselves that we were come back - by RV - and do 'em again.

Over 600 miles today... a little more than 1,000 to go.

Little Izzy slept most of the day today... to go along with the heater popping and expelling gas last night, Izzy thought the two beds made a great playground, jumping from one to the other.  All night.  We will try to keep her up until bedtime tonight, so maybe we can all get some sleep.

The motel tonight is way more modern than last nights.  The weather is nice... well, in the 60s... so, maybe we won't have to find out how noise the heater is?
