I forgot...

D-Day.  Departure Day, that is.

We dumped tanks one more time, then started unhooking... water, sewer, electricity, satellite TV.  It has been almost 4 months; yes, I still remember how to do this stuff.  The leveling jacks came up just like they're supposed to.  I pulled the motorhome off the wood blocks the tires were on - yep, it still moves.  Joan guided me back to the cargo trailer - the tongue of that is up on blocks, too, so there is no moving that around - and we hooked up.  Backed up the rig to get us turned around so we can pull straight out.  Joan watched for traffic either direction on the road... we made it out of there unscathed.

Into town, and we put the motorhome into the ferry line; with enough time to have one last breakfast at the Hungry Clam.  Brian (our boss) came by to tell us good-bye in person - I thought that was very nice of him.

We loaded onto the Washington State Ferry Samish, the newest ferry in the San Juan Islands fleet.  I have to say, I was pretty impressed with this ferry: more room side-to-side between vehicles (they did still put us right up against the bulkhead on the driver's side, though.

Joan studied her National Park Guide and maps while we were on the ferry.  A last look back at Friday Harbor...

Nice interior, comfortable seats, even some artwork...

An hour and 10 minutes later, we were rolling through Anacortes.  Next stop: the Coupeville to Port Townsend Ferry.  It's a pretty drive down Whidbey Island.  We pulled into the Coupeville Ferry Landing well ahead of our 3:30 reservation... they weren't full, and the attendent put us on the next ferry - very little wait.  First in line...

This ferry is much smaller than the ones used in the San Juans.  Several semi-trucks rolled off, but there were only 2 other RVs and some cars that loaded with us.  This trip is only 25 minutes, across Admiralty Inlet.

That put us in Port Townsend about 2 hours earlier than we planned.  Well, no real plan.  We discussed stopping for the night in Port Townsend, but decided to head on to Port Angeles.  Not a great distance, and more pretty roads.  Along the way, we called ahead for an RV site... the place we picked was well-rated in the campground guide book.  They only had one site left - fortunately, that's all we need.

The RV park is nice enough, but I guess I forgot what RV parks (especially those that are full) are like, after almost 4 months in the site we were in on San Juan Island.  OMG, this is snug...

The neighbors on both sides of us are making laps back and forth; not sure why.  But, after the peace and quiet we had, the plodding on gravel sure makes a lot of noise.  And that wall of trees behind us - yeah, that is to the south... that means no satellite TV.  This place is rated 9/10/10.  No cable TV.  We can pull in a couple Canadian channels on the antenna, and one shopping channel.  No nightly news.  Not that big of a deal - we have satellite radio.

Little Izzy is sitting in the "living room" with us; the door is open, but she is content to look out through the screen door... she doesn't want to go outside with all those "cat-killing people" wandering around.

I think we all got spoiled with the accommodations the last 4 months.  ;-)

Day one off the island.
