Happy Birthday, Dan!

It is our son-in-law Dan's birthday today.  His parents arrived yesterday afternoon... yeah, parents and in-laws... I think he and Steph will need a break when we all leave.  ;-)

More sports viewing last night - very similar to the experience with the Phoenix Mercury last Sunday.  Well, without the dance squad, the mascot, the music, the Jumbotron... OK, it wasn't the same at all, but it was a close one.

Dan is the coach for the boys' volleyball team.  They were playing their big rival for the playoffs.  They lost the first game.  Won the second.  It came down to the third...

The coach...

A tie towards the end of the last game...

It was a good game; both teams played well.  Many of the volleys were hard-fought.  In the end, the rivals won.  This being the playoffs, Dan is done coaching.  Well, until basketball starts.

Back at Steph's room, I took a photo of the board...

Two things stuck out to me: the mention of "sailboats" as part of the assignment (Steph is a math teacher).  Maybe we have rubbed off on her a bit?  ;-)  At the bottom of the board, reminders of the food drive and Coins for Cancer.  We are very proud of the work Steph and Dan do with these kids - the education part, of course, but also teaching them to be good people.

Heading home, Steph had to stop at the store to pick up ingredients for Dan's Mom to make a cake.  We took Dan's folks to the game, they rode back with him, Steph with us.  I pushed the cart in the store - love to see my two girls interact...

What high school does he coach for and who were they playing??? A few years back my daughter played volleyball for Valley Christian in Chandler. In fact, their girls varsity coach is now my other daughter's best friend from when we lived there. Spent HOURS AND HOURS in gyms all over Phoenix for vball.
