An RV park, and...

Going to America.

Last night, Casey (the guy who owns the property we rent for our RV site) let us know that there would be someone else coming in with an RV... "He will be on the other side of the mobile home - you won't even know he's there.  He'll be coming in tonight on the ferry, about 10:00"

I asked, "Is he planning on putting his RV in there in the dark?"  (Lots of overhanging trees on that side.)

"No.  Can you move your car?  I was thinking he can pull by your cargo trailer, and then you'll be able to get your car out.  Just for tonight.  Tomorrow, he'll be on the other side, and you won't even know he's there."

Hmmm... second time he said that.

He rolled in around 10:00.  Banging doors and a barking dog.  Oh, well; it isn't my property.  I'm sure it will be fine once he gets settled in.

This morning when we got up, it was drizzling.  Of course - I washed the car yesterday.  I said to Joan, "How about a quick trip to America?  I'll take you to lunch, and we can do some shopping if you want."

She made reservations (yep, still space available), we cleaned up, and headed to the ferry shortly after 7:00.  Here's the back end of our new neighbor's RV...

Good thing Casey let us know to move our car - we wouldn't have been able to get out.  We drove to the ferry landing, in the drizzle...

Joan ran across the street, got her a coffee, me a hot chocolate, and a couple scones.  Then, time to load up...

We went up to the passenger deck - Joan settled in, I took a few photos...

On that lower photo, our boats in the foreground, the building in the background.  As you can see from the yellow siding, the upper portion of the building is getting closer; the exterior is pretty well done, but there is a lot to do inside for the restaurant.  Too bad for them: by the time the construction is done, the summer season will be wrapping up.

I went outside the passenger deck to get a few photos of the scuddy clouds...

We stopped in Anacortes for a light breakfast, then decided to take the CR-V on our favorite scooter road.  Not quite the same.  ;-)  Well, for one thing, this piece of farm machinery (for picking apples, maybe?) was moving slow...

Through the twisties (yeah, definitely not as much fun as the scoots - but warmer and dryer)...

Joan said she'd like to do some shopping in Bellingham.  A stop in Fairhaven first - we really like the bookstore there...

Joan asked me to pick where I wanted for lunch... "Well, we could head south and go to Carino's in Burlington."  Agreed.  We made a stop at REI and Trader Joe's in Bellingham... nice to have that variety, including some "3 buck Chuck."  I got some very nice water and windproof gloves at REI.  They had an interesting folding kayak...

No, I don't need another kayak, but interesting how it folds.  I read about this a year or so ago, but this is the first time I've seen one in person.

Joan didn't find anything she wanted at REI (fun to look, though), but she did better at Trader Joe's.

From there, we got on the Interstate and made the run south to Mt. Vernon/Burlington, where we picked up a few things at Wally World, then to Carino's.  Seems like these impromptu trips are rush-rush, but we had a relaxing late lunch.

Time to head back to the ferry, with a stop at the casino along the way - no, not for gambling - their gas is 75¢ per gallon cheaper than Friday Harbor, and Safeway.  Then, back to the ferry landing... and more sprinkles.

We stayed in the car for the trip back on the ferry...

The first few years on San Juan Island, the ferry was entertaining... these days, it is a couple hours (in line and on the water) to get through to get somewhere.  Yeah, more fun with the scoots, since you get to go to the front of the line, but neither of us was up for a ride in the rain.  Not to mention the groceries we picked up were a bit beyond the scoots' capacity.

Back at the motorhome, Izzy got to go outside, and I went back to meet the neighbors.  They have moved their travel trailer into their spot, on the other side of the mobile home (that the owner here uses just for storage).  We will see their RV as we come and go, but not while we are in our motorhome or yard.

Another day off tomorrow, 4 weeks to go on our contracts.
