A pretty start to the day...

It was still dark when I shoved off from the dock...

The weather weasels are calling for building winds today, so an early morning outing seems prudent.  Well, that and the sunrise was calling.  At the end of our canal, looking east...

It wasn't that bright to the eye - the camera tries to adjust, but there is frequently this pretty glow in the sky before the sun gets to the horizon.  Out the canal, the drilling ships are lighted and right ahead...

Looking back towards our island, again with that glow in the sky...

Out to the ship channel for an open view of the impending sunrise...

The wind was still light, comfortable in shirt sleeves at 78ยบ.  I put the boat in neutral and just took in the view...

A bait shrimper was on its way out...

The color temperature of the light changes quick this time of day.  A manual exposure on the camera to expose for the sun...

Egrets in the bush, not quite ready to take on the day...

A happy boy, heading back in...

Nice way to start the day.

Hmmmm......you claim to be "heading out in the near future". I am thinking that possibly the San Juans and Orca's are again calling your name?? If so, we hope to come up and take a whale watching tour this summer. Greg

Hi Greg,

There is a strong pull for us with the San Juans and those magnificent Orcas. But, we did let our boss in Friday Harbor know that we wouldn't be coming back this summer. We will be heading out soon with the motorhome, heading to the other coast to play tourist this summer. We will miss the Pacific Northwest (having gone there 7 out of the last 10 years). I can definitely recommend San Juan Safaris in Friday Harbor for a whale watch outing: they have a "classic" whale watch boat (Sea Lion) and an "adventure" open, high-speed inflatable type metal boat (Kestrel) to cover different tastes in being out on the water. Or, the sister company, San Juan Island Outfitters, in Roche Harbor for another whale watch boat or guided kayak tours. Not to sound like a commercial, but they will take good care of you.
