Tourists...

You may have seen the signs: If this is tourist season, why can't we shoot 'em?"

With the Vespa tire situation taken care of, we are free to tourist about... not on scooters today, because it was raining on and off all day.

First stop: out for breakfast.  Off to the airport.  Fredericksburg has a very nice general aviation airport, with a couple nice businesses for those using the airport and those who enjoy the airport environment:  The Airport Diner and the Hanger Hotel...

Not a lot of traffic at the airport, but we had a nice breakfast with a view of the runway...

In our flying days, I would have come here just for the ambiance.

Next stop: Fat Ass Ranch and Winery.  There are more than 30 wineries in the Fredericksburg area.  This one caught Joan's fancy...

Fat Ass Ranch & Winery.  Before we even went inside, a cat came to greet us...

No tours, since their production facility isn't here.  But, they do have a tasting bar...

Joan picked out a few bottles.  I am a wine luddite: it all tastes pretty much the same to me... oh, I can tell the difference between sweet and dry, heavy and light, but any kind of good wine would be wasted on me.  But, they do have t-shirts and other Fat Ass stuff...

From there, it was off to Luckenbach, Texas... no, we did not see "Willie and Waylon and the boys."  Not much there besides a bar, general store (of course, selling t-shirts), and a dance hall.  But, it is a Texas landmark, and we have not been there before.

There was live music scheduled later, but we decided to move on.  Next stop: Wildseed Farms; the photos will show what the place is all about...

The rest of the afternoon was taken up with a walk through some of the shops in downtown Fredericksburg.  Nothing we needed, but the town is full of interesting shops - most that we didn't go in.  There was a spices and sauces store where I tried a queso blanco dip... that should be a "white cheese"... nope; it was so spicy hot that I thought it was going to burn through my tongue.  Joan said, "Try some sweet, like an apple butter or jam..."  Yeah, it took the fire out; I'm hoping to get the sensations back in my taste buds sometime soon.  ;-)

We also went into a 5¢ & 10¢ store...

They had a lot of old(ish) stuff in there - things I haven't seen in a long time... like Laffy Taffy, candy cigarettes, bins of panties, penny candy (that wasn't 1¢), old-timey toys, doilies... nothing we needed, but it was a nostalgic walk-through.  We had a late lunch/early supper (lupper?) at a brew pub.  No, neither of us care for beer, but Joan had some German sausages, and I had real food (beef - it's what's for dinner... um, lupper).

Not sure how much more of this type of fun my feet can take.  ;-)  The chances of precip are pretty solid the next few days, so there probably won't be any scooting - I may need a driving day.
