Camera Complications...

I have a couple action cams, 2-GoPros and an Akaso.  The last GoPro I bought was a Hero 2018 that I jailbroke and loaded the firmware to essentially make it a Hero 5 Black... those cameras share the same body and internals, there are just some features "blocked" by GoPro on the lesser expensive Hero 2018.  Even with that updated firmware, the camera is still pretty clunky when used with the phone with the GoPro app.  Using it on the scoot, it would seem to be much easier to use the phone to operate the camera... except about half the time I go to press the shutter release "button" on the phone, it switches the camera from stills to video.  And today, that same action had the camera shooting video AND stills at the same time.

That's a new one to me... and it resulted in a couple hundred images to have to sort through at the end of the day.  And the reason why, some days, I just leave all cameras at home.  But, I do enjoy having some kind of "image inclusion" as a memory of the day.

I had the phone and camera set up and talking to each other before we geared up to ride today.  This was a "bonus day" for riding, because last night the local weather weasels were calling for rain today.  It was beautiful blue skies and an hourly weather prediction of only a 15% chance of precip today.

We had a loose plan: take the curvy roads to Keystone, the county road to Hill City, then decide where to next.  Heading out...

That is a Goldwing in front of us, leaving Hart Ranch.  I haven't seen that bike here before.  A couple miles of twisties, and those folks turned around.  We enjoyed the road...

When we got to the intersection in Keystone, we made a quick change of plans...

That road ahead is the country road to Hill City; that orange sign says "Loose Gravel."  Nope.  We decided to roll through Keystone and take the highway (244) that runs from Mt Rushmore to Hwy 385.  Pretty quiet in Keystone...

Making the turn towards Mt Rushmore, a bunch of bikes were coming down the hill and heading towards Iron Mountain Road...

The first view of the Presidents...

Winding behind Mt Rushmore, George's profile...

Rolling on Hwy 244...

Coming into Custer, we saw a bunch of sportscars...

Enough of them that there must be some kind of organized rally; mostly older English cars.  We stopped for gas, then to the DQ next door to the gas station...

Notice the pretty blue sky on all the photos up to this point.  The service in the DQ wasn't particularly quick, but it didn't seem like we were in there all that long.  A change in the sky when we came out...

We headed east, through Custer State Park...

Joan led most of the way through the park; I could tell that she was intent on getting back to Hart Ranch in an expeditious manner... hopefully, before any rain falls.  Turning onto Iron Mountain Road...

We were making good time on Iron Mountain Road, until...

The driver of that minivan used the brake pedal a lot more than the gas pedal.  When they did finally pull over to let us around, we waved and picked up the pace again.

More fun twisties all the way back... made it home without getting rained on...

I put Joan's scoot in the trailer, took a couple photos of the Vespa, then it joined the Honda in the trailer.  Within and hour, the sky was looking friendly again.  Rufus got some outdoor time.

A good riding day, and Joan made us a fine supper.  It's all good.
