To America...

That's what our friend, Craig, calls it when you leave the island to go to the mainland: going to America.  It isn't like we're tired of Friday Harbor, since we had only been here about 15 hours, but we needed to bring Big Red over.

We bailed out of Anacortes a day early, due to the weather forecast.  It rained last night, as predicted.  I expected it to be foggy, since the dew point and temp were supposed to be pretty close, but that didn't come to pass.  There was light rain as we walked to the ferry dock...

A view back to the docks where our work boats are located.  The boat in the foreground is a C-Dory, same size as Wild Blue, but without the camperback and interior amenities.  That is a whale watch boat for one of the other operators.  The next two boats are our work boats... gives you some perspective on size.

We walked on the ferry.  At the beginning of the season, I enjoy the occasional ferry ride.  There was some light rain and patchy fog, but the visibility was pretty decent all the way back to Anacortes...

The Blonde relaxing on the ride over...

We called a cab to meet us at the ferry landing, picked up Big Red, topped off her fuel tank (diesel went up 7¢ per gallon overnight), and had a pleasant Mothers Day lunch out.  I did let Joan know what a great Mother she is, and so did our daughter when she called this morning.

Back to the ferry landing for the next trip back.  We got there 20 minutes before boarding was scheduled, something you don't want to do during the busy summer season (we are often in line for an hour and a half at that time).  No problem, the ferry was busier than I thought it would be, but not full.

Light rain as we drove off the ferry.  Little Izzy was happy to see us when we got back to the boat.  A few minutes later, the rain came down heavy... Izzy went to the cockpit to see what all the noise was about...

It stays reasonably dry back there, but Izzy wasn't so sure about all the noise.

According to the weather folks, we are supposed to see more precip for the next few days, but only a 10% chance on Saturday, during the C-Dory gathering here.  Over 50 boats have signed up for that, so I hope the weather is cooperative.
