Sunny. I like sunny...

We relaxed in most of the morning.

We spent the afternoon getting more RV ideas.  Not an easy decision process, since we are looking for smaller... without feeling like we are living small.  I keep going back to the Sprinter-chassis motorhomes, but they are snug.  Too snug?  Maybe.

I also like some of the shorter Class A motorhomes, but the industry seems to be more concerned about making "entry level" models in the shorter sizes.

Same with most Class Cs.  Another interesting option is what some manufacturers call a B+ and others label them "aerodynamic Class Cs"... they don't have the big cab-over sleeper and feature rounded corners in most of their exterior styling, instead of right angles.  Nicer interior appointments and full body paint add to the appeal.

Tucson has a bunch of RV dealers, and this is their season - the snowbirds are here.  There were plenty of people checking things out.

Making our shopping around more pleasant: beautiful sunshine.

:-)

Hi Jim,
Please steer clear of products made by Thor Motorcoach. We have been to their plant and seen the lousy workmanship throughout the build process. Too many cut corners.

Hi John and Kathy,
Nice to hear from you. We crossed Thor off our list long ago, back when we were first looking at a 5th wheel (2008). Winnebago has moved to the top of our list.
Best wishes,
Jim

Sprinter chassis - snug but easy breezy simple. Our Winnebago quality of "feel" is very nice. Doesn't feel like your in a country kitchen like many out there. Good luck in your search.

Hey Brazo; I really want to like the Sprinter chassis Winnebagos. They are nicely built (especially compared to some of the other Sprinter offerings out there), but they are just a bit too small for the way we plan to use it. A corner bed does not work for us, and the model with the rear bed slide would not work for our cargo trailer towing (without unhooking). The twin bed model is close, but still a bit too snug in the living room and storage. We have been RVing for a lot of years, having owned various rigs, from diesel pushers to Class B campervans. To get what we want, I think we will be in the 28 to 30' range... a bit much for a Sprinter chassis, but apparently not enough for other diesel options.

I wonder if you have ever looked at Coach House? They have a diesel F450 based rig that might just work for you.

Hi John and Kathy,

That Coach House is nice... a bit spendy. We want to keep it small for the convenience factor (not full-timing like you folks), and balance that without breaking the bank. CH, in a 27' size, is pushing $180K. I might have to write a couple more books. ;-)

The newly resurrected Holiday Rambler has come out with the latest iteration of the Trek. 26 feet long gas engine and a rear queen bed that rises to the ceiling so the room becomes available for other uses. I just saw one at the Tampa show. Might work for you.
