Lake Pend Oreille...

A cruising in the car day.  We stopped for breakfast before heading north to Lake Pend Oreille (pronounced: pond oh RAY - The French name comes from fur trappers and it means "hangs from ears."  That comes from the round shell earring worn by male and female Pend d'Oreille/Kalispel tribe members).

The further north we drove, the more it looked like rain (part of the reason we decided to stop in this area for a couple days).  As we got close to the lake, we came upon a bridge that goes over a narrow part of the water... and, of course, under construction...

We drove through Sandpoint, then headed towards the Scenic Byway on the northeast side of the lake.

Then came the rain...

The temperature dropped about 10º and the rain thickened up, threatening to hail (little slush balls for a short time).  We continued on the Scenic Byway, knowing at some point we were going to have to turn around to get back: we couldn't find any roads on the map that would bring us back to the southwest after circumnavigating the lake.

We stopped for lunch at one of our faves, Texas Roadhouse, on the way back; then decided to check out the waterfalls that are in Post Falls.  When the town was founded, there were a couple dams built to power mills (sawmills and a grist mill), and later provide hydro-electric power (starting in 1908) - there is a nice park at the dam site...

Joan forwarded these photos to me: a selfie...

And, what she titled: Once a photographer, always...

As you can see in the photos, it was nice and sunny when we got back to Post Falls.  A little breezy, the temp was around 70º... pretty pleasant.  If we had headed into Montana, we would be dealing with much colder, more wind, and rain.  Nice to not be on a schedule.

Plus, little Izzy is very fond of the grassy area behind our coach!

Hi HRB. We are looking for some time in the mountains, the Black Hills, then back to Texas.

As far as where the SRKWs go in the winter: they tend to be around the Salish Sea in the summer, because of the concentration of salmon that return to the Frasier River that time of year. In the winter months, they can be anywhere off-shore, from northern California to north of Vancouver Island. Quite a wide stretch of "residency" in their winter search for food.

I won't be praying for sn... sn... I can hardly bring myself to write that nasty word. I spent too many years in the frozen northland, and I will be happy to never be in the snow again. But, I hope you get as much of it as you want.
