Getting some culture...

When we first pulled in here, one of the neighbors we met, Tim, introduced himself and then asked, "Do you sing barbershop quartet?"

"Umm, no; I'm more of a rock 'n roll kinda guy."

We see Tim and most of our other liveaboard neighbors daily.  We knew this was important to Tim, so today, we went to a "Barbershop Bonanza" at the local Community Theater building.  For a town this small, this building is spectacular!  It doesn't look too impressive from the exterior, but inside is a beautifully designed theater setting.

They have a slate of events scheduled for the summer - music, dance, and plays.  Today, the entertainment was a local men's barbershop chorus, a barbershop quartet, and a local women's group (Sweet Adelines type).  They were all good.  After intermission, an international award-winning quartet performed... these guys were amazing!  And, I did mention that I am definitely more of a rock 'n roll kinda guy, but some of their harmony gave me goose bumps.  The final act was a women's group from Canada that rocked the place.  Oh, it was beautiful harmony, but the music was definitely more modern, featuring current hits.  It reminded me of the a capella TV show, The Sing Off.  They had tight harmony and sharp choreography.  The last two acts received standing ovations... and deserved it.  It was a full house, and folks were enthusiastic in their response to the acts.

I'll get a few photos posted tomorrow (my computer is supposed to be back then).

When we came out of the theater, it was a beautiful sunny afternoon.  And a great view of the harbor from the hill as we walked back to the boat.

We're settling into life in Friday Harbor.
