Happy Birthday, America!

Some folks consider the 4th of July the midpoint of the summer... around these parts, it means summer is just getting started.

Specifically for us, it means another work day.  I am scheduled to drive out of Roche Harbor today... and it is a zoo.  The harbor is so thick with anchored boats, it seems like you could walk across it, from boat to boat.  Not fun trying to thread through that (I did it last year, too).  Add to the fun: drunken partiers blasting around in dinghies; crowds right next to the temporary platform where we have to land (our usual docking spot is blocked by the floating platform they bring in, which is the center of the festivities).

Friday Harbor, on the other hand, is more like most typical small towns on the 4th of July: there is a parade, a band will be playing near the waterfront in the evening, right up to the time the fireworks start.

We can listen to the band and watch the fireworks from the cockpit of Wild Blue.  When the "ooooooohhhhs and aaaaaaahhhhs" are over, we can go right to bed; no fighting traffic to get home.  Tomorrow is another work day.

Have a safe and fun Independence Day!
