Well, that was just like the tourist brochures...

I have often said, "No two trips are the same."  Very true.  I have been running longer distances on most trips this season... not today.  Leaving from Roche Harbor, the whales were right outside Mosquito Pass.

A few views of the boat and around Roche Harbor (courtesy of the new Canon G3x)...

Back to the trip: guests on the bow as we arrived on the scene...

Our first siting...

Granny and Onyx were with this group.  We had them to ourselves for almost an hour, then moved a bit south to view (and ride north with) another group...

The new camera does a great job.  There still is that little issue of having to keep a hand on the helm, and not being able to shoot at every opportunity.  I was able to shut down the boat a few times so we could view and listen.  There were some fun spy hops and pectoral slaps when I didn't have the chance to shoot.

This was a pretty special day, getting to spend some quality time with the whales, all on our own.  For the last half hour or so, there were other whale watch boats around, but plenty of room for everyone to get great views.

We stayed with the whales until they were getting close to Stuart Island, then crossed well behind them for a look around Spieden Island - a couple bald eagles...

Some 4-legged wildlife (Fallow and Sitka deer and Mouflon sheep) on the island, and harbor seals on the nearby rocks.

A very nice trip.  If they were all that easy, this job would be a walk in the park!
