Play Day...
We discussed putting the scoots on the ferry and going to Orcas Island. I am not excited about being on a schedule on a day off... and when you are riding the ferry, you are on a schedule. We decided to tourist our way around San Juan Island instead.
Little Izzy was on deer patrol before we headed out...
Then, out and about...
Some curves...
The road to the lavender farm has been torn up from the north; we decided to give it a try from the south...
They will be having their Lavender Festival this weekend, so it was good to know that you can get to them from the other end of the road (the road from the north is still torn up). Checking out the farm...
Across the road from the lavender farm is a pond where kids have a summer sailing program - always fun to watch...
Back on the scoots, back the way we came in on this road, and up the west side of San Juan Island. The obligatory first view of Haro Strait...
The San Juan Island Trolley came by - we heard a woman say, "I saw a whale! It came out of the water!" The sat for a short time, then took off again...
Yes, we did see a couple whales - humpbacks. All I brought with me was the wide angle lens (good for shooting while on the scoots)... you can see the "footprint" of the humpback under the arrow. Yeah, even on a day off, we enjoy seeing whales. These kayakers were getting a closer view...
Back on the scoots...
We decided to make a side trip to Snug Harbor...
It is a picturesque place - a protected harbor, and a lot of new, modern cabins. It has grown a lot in the 5 years we've been working here.
From there, it was on to Roche Harbor for a late lunch at Madrona Grill; good food and a nice view of the Roche Harbor area. Then, back to the scoots. We took the scenic route home, riding some back roads we haven't been on yet this season...
Of course, you still can't get away from these orange signs...
A stop at the store before settling in back home. And, Izzy getting some more deer patrol time outside...
Those last two shots were with my old pocket camera... seems it can work when it wants to - nice and crisp. Cute subject, too.
:-)
