An early morning outing...

Well, not too early - I didn't get out of bed until 7:30.

I didn't miss the sunrise, though.  No, it would have happened earlier than that... if it hadn't been overcast.  By the time I got dressed and the boat ready to shove off, the sky was clearing somewhat.  Heading southeast...

Then, a turn to the northwest to get out of the canals...

An osprey keeping an eye on the canal...

The first view of dolphins happened as I headed toward the turning basin...

Depending on the direction I am facing, the photos will be into the light, or with it - you will notice the difference.

This one reminds me of a Jimmy Buffett song...

"Fins to the left, fins to the right, you're the only girl in town!"  Well, except the girl part.

The dolphins came closer...

Cool Change wasn't the only boat out there...

Plenty of bay shrimpers out this morning.  And, this Coast Guard boat...

I noticed they were looking at me through binoculars at one point... "What's up with that little pontoon out there by the drilling ships?"  Pretty obvious that I am no threat.

The dolphins were close by on both sides of the boat...

They turned south, heading towards the ship channel...

Turning into the PI channel, as I was heading out, this tug pushing a couple barges...

More bay shrimpers down this way...

And, dolphins and pelicans...

A Gulf shrimper heading in...

Oh, and some dolphins...

Whoa - that's so close, I couldn't get it all in the frame...

Group shot!

And, more bay shrimpers...

Plenty of these guys flying by...

Time to think about heading in; bye-bye, friends...

This small boat was buying shrimp right off the bay shrimper - fresh bait!

Back home, Joan was ready to serve breakfast out on the deck - nice!  "You feeling up for a boat ride?" I asked her.

"Yes, if you don't mind going out again."

"Pretty sure I can be talked into it."  ;-)

Heading back out...

These Great Blue Herons look like stumps in the sand...

Yes, Joan got to see some dolphins...

The orange in the water is a reflection from the oil platform that is in the turning basin...

"Does that bird look like it is doing the Funky Chicken?"

Yep.

A lovely afternoon.  Cooler than the last few days, the high was in the upper 60s.  A change of weather coming for the next couple days - I put the cover on the boat and got the stuff on our deck battened down.  This evening, the weather weasel on the local news said, "You will want to get your winter weather gear ready - a big change is coming!"

We're ready for it: as long as the power stays on, we'll be able to watch movies while the electric fireplace keeps us toasty.  ;-)  Hoping we won't actually need "the winter weather gear."
