A pleasant surprise...

Businesses come and go here in the Tropical Tip.  Today, we took the opportunity to drive up South Padre Island to see what has changed... everything is looking good.  Looks like the area survived Spring Break fine, and many of the businesses have spruced up.

Not many spring breakers that we could see.  The South Padre Island Beach 'n Biker Fest is this weekend...

Looks like the weather should be decent for that (not that I trust the weather weasels).  Holy Week is the next week, so there should be plenty of people around for the next couple weeks.

One of the tasks we had to address was taking a TV to a local thrift shop; Whiskers sells things to benefit the Port Isabel Animal Shelter.  The TV we donated was a cathode ray tube set.  A nice one, but an oldie, compared to the curent thin TVs.  It has a built-in DVD player, and we have the remote and the owners manual.  They were delighted to get it.  Of course, it weighs as much as a baby elephant... takes two big strong guys to move it.  I was careful to hold the door while Joan carried it in.  ;-)  Yes, that's a joke.  She can get her own door.  Yes, that's a joke, too.

And, that pleasant surprise?  While driving up the island, we came across our favorite local burger place: BurgerFi...

Yes, I know I have written about this place before.  It reminds me of 5 Guys, with fresh meat and crispy fries.  Before we left for Phoenix, it was closed, with a sign saying "Closed for remodeling."  Around here, "Closed for remodeling" is code for: we're going out of business.  It turns out that they really were closed for remodeling.  The manager told us they had to double the size of the kitchen - business was good!  I am a happy guy.  My belly is happy.  Just to make sure, we ate there for lunch today... doing our part to keep the local economy healthy.

It is a beautiful day in the Tropical Tip: sunshine, blue sky, temp around 80º, and breezy (wind 15+, gusts to 25).  If you were going to be out on a boat today, the water is a little murky because of the wind.  Not an issue for us - our sweet boat is 2,800 miles away.  When the wind lets up, I'll be ready to get the kayaks or the inflatable dinghy out, though.

Speaking of the boat, one other "project" I was assigned today: schedule a time with the boat yard that is storing Wild Blue to get her out of her indoor storage.  Did it.  And, in the process, I found out they have a bottom paint special right now... I was going to have them block the boat so I could paint it, but this price is very reasonable, so I had them schedule that, too.  And, some motor service (oil change, plugs, and impeller)... scheduled it so they will begin the work when we arrive there, minimizing our time as "land dwellers" (in a motel).  Of course, that is assuming everybody does what they say they're going to do.

I mentioned that Joan had the "tummy twinges" as we got close to home (that feeling you get when you are excited about something)... after scheduling the boat, I had "tummy twinges."  We've been home two nights... is it time to head out, yet?  ;-D
