Transients...

No, not folks like us who are here for the season - transient Orca whales.  Compared to the Southern Resident Killer Whales (J, K, and L-Pod), these are "the bad boys."  The mammal-eaters.

We had a wedding party on a private charter this morning.  It was a nice scenic trip, with some wildlife thrown in.  Bald Eagles...

Naturalist Rachel with guests on the bow, in beautifully calm water...

Turn Point was looking good in the cloud-filtered morning light...

Nice people.

The afternoon trip was completely different - heading south into Haro Strait to meet up with a group of transient Orcas (T-51 was the big male in this group).

Rachel shared these photos (nice job!)...

This group had a couple youngsters - you can see the pinkish/yellow color in the newborn; and practicing some tail-lobs in the bottom photo.  It was a long haul to get to them... and SO worth it.  We had a great viewing: plenty of surface activity (more common with the residents).  Every trip is different.
