Thank you, Captain Obvious...

No shit, Sherlock.

We knew, if we went east, we were going to get rained on.  The other option would be to sit in Fort Stockton for another night... not much of an option.  Here's how the sky looked when we left...

Only a spit of rain now and then, but plenty of crosswind...

Getting closer to Hill Country in Texas, you see a lot of this...

The roadbed has been carved down into the hills, making for less of a steep up/down grade.  It gets pretty squirrelly in these "canyons" with a crosswind.

About 200 miles west of San Antonio, the rain started in earnest...

There was so much water standing on the road, that visibility dropped to about nuthin' when trucks passed us.  And there are a lot of trucks on this stretch of road.  The speed limit is still 80 mph, and they don't slow down for silly things like reduced visibility, wind, or standing water.

The rain let up for about 5 minutes, when we saw this...

Yeah, they are burning brush.  You can see by the way the smoke is moving, it is still a crosswind.  A few minutes later, and the rain pounded even harder.  No photos.  One of us was busy driving.  A semi behind us made a swerve to the right, then the left - he had pulled out to pass us.  On a curve.  Going downhill.  I don't know if he hydroplaned or was busy texting... got my attention when I saw that in my mirror!  I slowed down a bunch as he pulled out again, and let him pass.  I'd rather have him in front of me... way in front of me.

Once into the outskirts of San Antonio, the rain let up a bit.  A welcome relief, considering the heavy traffic.  We booked a couple nights in an RV park in San Antonio that has concrete pads...

Good place to be when the rain comes down - you don't track mud into the coach, and the jacks don't sink in the muck.  The rain let up long enough to get the motorhome set up, and I took Izzy for a short walk.  Of course, she wanted to go where it is muddy; we didn't.  But, she did get out for some fresh air.

We tried to get a rental car; Enterprise is the only one who... "We will pick you up."  Joan made a reservation online on the way here.  When she called to arrange a pick-up, she was told that they are "sold out."  She asked to be on a cancellation list, but we don't have much hope for that.

Along about tomorrow, we will have cabin fever... I will unplug us and we'll get out and about with the motorhome, if necessary.

This park seems quite busy with kids; it is spring break for many of the Texas schools, not just the colleges and universities.  The weather will likely keep them inside... I really feel sorry for the adults who have to keep them under control.  Oh, and: "Get off my lawn, ya damn kids!"  ;-)
