I feel a yodel coming on...
It rained during the night. Not enough to wash the bugs off the front of the coach, but you could hear the pitter-patter on the roof of the coach. Makes for a nice "sound machine."
Our plan for the day is to go to Leavenworth, about 170 miles miles. Leavenworth in Washington State is an alpine town, and not to be confused with Leavenworth in Kansas, which is a prison.
It was a gray start to the day...
We stopped for gas - easy, with no idiots using the pumps as their person parking spots - and were rolling by 8:30. It was mostly two-lane roads today. After a while, the gray gave up to the blue skies...
We crossed the Columbia River a couple times as we made our way to Wenatchee, WA.
The GPS had an apparent mis-spelling: shoulda been "damn" road. It eventually smoothed out and became quite scenic.
Lots of agriculture along the way: cherries, and apples, and grapes, oh my!
Pretty sure I made this same joke last year: these people are livin' on Easy Street...
It took a while getting through Wenatchee - there was a semi getting hooked up to be towed at a major intersection... very slow going.
Once past the hold-up, the traffic was, again, pretty light...
It wasn't long before we arrived at the campground. Yeah, I'll call this one a campground instead of an RV park...
We are in their longest site. In the dirt. And the trees. No cable TV, no way we can get anything on satellite TV because of the trees. In fact, we can't even get satellite radio. We are slightly "over-filling" the site...
That's the back of the cargo trailer right up to the rocks at the back of the site.
We want to tour around the town of Leavenworth, and this is what we could find for a site... the least developed and the most expensive since we left home.
Leavenworth - an alpine village. We drove through here last year on our way to the San Juans and both said, "If we get back this way, we should spend a night here." Well, here we are. It is a pretty little town, with a definite "alpine" theme...
Time for lunch - Joan was feeling like German food should be on the menu...
Lots of options - this town seems to be comprised of mostly of eateries and hotels. We found a place with a good variety on the menu...
Joan ordered some kind of schnitzel spatzel thing, and I went on a different Axis Power culinary trip and ordered spaghetti with meat sauce and Mizithra cheese (ala Old Spaghetti Factory favorite). She seemed quite happy with hers... I had a bite... yeah, my spaghetti was better (for me). Either way, we were both stuffed. I really wanted to have some ice cream... or a crepe'... or some kind of waffle sweet thing, but my belly didn't have room. We walked around town some more, trying to open some belly space...
Didn't work. We headed for a nearby Safeway, dessert-less. On the bright side, we did not go to the store hungry. Most of what we got was fruit. Probably had something to do with being influenced by the drive here. Shouldn't the apples be a lot less expensive here? I guess not.
Back to the coach, we made a good honest try at getting something off the powered TV antenna... 3 channels. Turns out, they are all PBS. Other than the occasional Austin City Limits, I haven't spent much time with PBS since they did away with Benny Hill. ;-)
Izzy and I got in a short nap. When I got up, Joan took a couple photos of Iz at the bedroom window...
A bit contrasty. Still cute.
As the afternoon turns to evening, we will settle in with some Yahtzee and cards. May have to converse. No doubt, there will be some smokey campfires here, so we'll have our windows and door closed. Yep, camping. I'm all about RVing. ;-)
------------
On edit: a got a couple private messages from friends Sharon and Stacy (HitchHiker folks) today - they are spending the month in that same pretty park we were in last night! We missed seeing them! We were only 7 sites apart. I guess we'll have to wait 'till next winter - we usually get to visit when we're at Cotton Lane, when we go to see Steph and Dan.
So close!
