One! Count 'em - one!

I'm talking about layers.  A polo shirt, no jacket.  It was warm - got up to 81º in Friday Harbor; and I was on our biggest boat today (Sea Lion), and it has an enclosed helm.  Both helm doors open most of the day, just to get some breeze in there.

But, it was warm enough to not need a jacket on my scoot commute either way.  A nice change of pace.

We had a good report: K-Pod is moving through the area.  Only the second time I've seen K-Pod this season.  By the time we were off the dock, they had moved up the west coast of San Juan Island, past Stuart Island, and were headed towards Saturna Island in the Canadian Gulf Islands.

We pointed Sea Lion north, picking the best route to get to the whales.  A nice bunch of people onboard, including one lady celebrating her 95th birthday (Babbette).  Our first whale view...

We tracked alongside the whales, getting some good views.  They started to spread out.  I took the boat closer to shore, keeping an eye on an active group, tracking east.  They slowed down, allowing us time to view with the engine off.  Then, one decided to break off from the group for a closer look at us...

I shut the boat down - it was too close to move away.

K-25, Scoter.  Then, he moved on by us...

This boat is bigger, newer, and faster than the other boats I usually drive, definitely our "flagship" boat.  As long as the guests on the bow stay seated, there is decent visibility...

When they stand up, it is hard to see around them.

Another beautiful day on the water: sunshine, warmth, light breeze, near calm water... and whales!  K-Pod whales.  :-)
