What's in a name?

In a couple hours, we'll be heading to the World Championship Shrimp Cook-off.  Which is accurate if your "world" is along the coast in the Tropical Tip of Texas.  ;-)

You may be aware that I am not a shrimp eater, but I have been told there will be other meat-eater foods available.  Not like I am a newbie at this - we have gone to this Shrimp Festival every year when we are here.  I haven't starved in the past... but, there is a new vendor from SPI that will be serving Chicago-style hotdogs.  And to me, nothing says "Shrimp Cook-off" like a good ol' hotdog.

There will be plenty of other vendors, where a guy can get culinary delights like funnel cake... unlike in the upper mid-west, I haven't seen anyone offering fried cheese curds here.

The real reason we enjoy this event: the music.  The band is the same one they have been having for going on 20 years (The Agency), and these guys are good!  Well, perhaps that is my interpretation, because they play the music I enjoy.

Like many small town fairs and events, there will likely be a performance by the Junior High drill team and a cheerleading squad or two.  The wrap up with be the announcement of the World Championship Shrimp Cook-off winners: both amateur and professional, representing some of the area restaurants... resulting in the bragging rights (and you will see it in their advertising) as offering "World Championship Shrimp" delicacies.

:-)

On edit:

A good time at the Shrimp Cook-off.  We sat with friends Mike and MJ, eating and listening to the music.  Some photos around the celebration...
