Getting skinny...

Don't worry, we're not wasting away.

About 9:00 this evening, a gust front hit.  The weather weasels were predicting the possibility of severe weather tonight... here it comes!

We are near the southern part of the severe thunderstorm warning area, which is putting Sturgis in the midst of it.  Every year during the Rally, there is one day (or night) where Mother Nature lets the bikers know about "the real rolling thunder."  ;-)

We were watching a Netflix movie when the the first gust hit - our awning started flapping.  Joan pushed the button to roll in the awning, I started the coach... "Time to make this thing skinny!"  I went out to put down our patio chairs and make sure everything was clear around the slide-outs.  Joan pulled those in (the reason I started the coach - it has to be running to pull in the slides) while I put away any loose stuff outside.

The last storm cell that rolled through caught us with the slides out - the big concern with that is the potential for damage to the awnings over the slides due to wind.  We were going to stay ahead of it this time.

Everything in the coach is accessible with the slides in, except our wardrobe/closet... I don't think we'll be needing a change of clothes tonight.  ;-)  It does get a bit "skinny" inside here with them in, though.

Rufus was a bit concerned when Joan moved his food and water dishes, but he settled back in next to me as soon as I came in and sat down.

If the storm passes before we head to bed, we'll "un-skinny" the coach.  If not, we'll get back to some extra space in the morning.  Our hatches are battened down, we have a local station on the TV to keep track of the weather warnings.  Pulling up weather radar, it looks like the worst of it will pass just north of us.  Sure beats "the olden days" of RVing, before internet and satellite TV, when we'd have to ask, "Do you know what county we're in?" when listening to weather radio.

One constant in our travels: we hear, "The weather has been more active than normal..."  Really?  Everywhere we go?  Makes me think there is no "normal."  ;-)
