A visit from the neighbor...

Our next door neighbor came around into our yard this morning.  Joan, Murphy, and I were out there enjoying the gorgeous Sunday morning.  I haven't played the Aeroband guitar in a while, so I had that out there with us; Joan and Murph enjoy their private concerts.

Anyway, back to the neighbor: as she walked up, she said, "I could hear someone playing loud rock 'n roll music - I figured it would be you."  Of course, she was kidding - I was playing quiet rock 'n roll music.  I was enjoying switching the sound modes on the Aeroband, mostly between nylon acoustic guitar and piano.

We invited the neighbor to sit down and visit with us.  She seems nice enough... talked about her dog a bunch and a bit about her 3 cats.  She didn't make near enough fuss about Murphy, which is something we expect of guests in our home.  Or on our patio.

"You let neighbors just walk into your yard?"  No.  But, this one is different.  Yes, I'm talking about Steph.  We love having her and Dan as our neighbors.  As happens frequently, the talk turns to the care and feeding of their cats.  Something I do from time to time.  All this time, I thought Steph lobbied for us to move her because she wants to see us on a generally daily basis.  Apparently, it was also to have a convenient cat(s) care-giver.

Kidding, as usual.  We do for each other.  It was nice to sit and visit.

Very devious: having you move next door for a built in grandcat sitter. A guy could do worse...

We had an enjoyable gathering at our house today. We made a big pot of chili and people brought side dishes of choice (mostly deserts that none of us need). After eating we sat and played for about two hours - all using carbon fiber guitars. Our friends Rick and Judy are moving to Nevada soon (leaving Thursday) and it is not clear when we will next see them. Another who came by is 84 and fading fast. He cannot play or sing anymore, ad is very unsteady on his feet.
He requested a few songs that we did for him. He mouthed the words even though his voice is shot. I think he had a very good time. Our other friend Ted is 77 and has plenty of medical issues too, in addition to being blind. They may be moving to Vegas soon to be nearer grandkids. We've made it a point this year to gather whenever possible, knowing that there may not be many more chances. These are the folks with whom we have had Thanksgiving dinner since moving here 18 years ago.

Hi Earl. Glad to hear you had a good gathering with friends. I do believe that having friends and family around us is an incentive to taking better care of ourselves as we age. I look forward to getting together with my music buddies on a regular basis since we moved to Arizona. But, of course, the best part - and the real reason we made this move - is to be near to Steph and Dan. We do get questions about the "togetherness," but there are days when we don't see them... and I miss that contact when that happens. But, so easy having them (literally) right next door for a short pop-in visit. And I think Steph knows that I feel good about being there for the grandkitties. Alfie needs his meds twice a day on schedule, and I think it is some peace of mind for Steph and Dan to know that they can call if they are going to be late getting away from work, and we'll get the kitties "med & fed." I may grumble about "being in the desert," but this has been a very good move for us. And this time of year is pretty darn nice here in the Sonoran Desert.
