Through the glass...

Not talking photography here.  Well, I did get a photo with my phone...

Murphy and I were out for his morning wandering about the yard.  When we came back to the door, Stella was looking out to see what we were doing.  She is still a "flight risk," even though she has it good here, so there won't be any outside for her until she is big enough for a harness and a leash.

Murphy had a tough morning: he was a pill.  We all have those days, I guess.  Better times ahead.

Another first for me.  First time I've taken a selfie in a mirror.  I was looking to show the shirt, and Joan was busy.  So...

Yeah, it's a Gerry Bear shirt.  As in Gerry Garcia.  As in: the Grateful Dead.  Music today at Mark's place, with the big group.  One of the charts he sent is for a Greatful Dead song.  I am not a Deadhead.  I have never played a Greatful Dead song.  But, Joan got me this shirt a long time ago from Vine, and I have never worn it.  Today is the day.

Here's a sitting selfie to show the shirt better...

Hopefully, I won't get stopped by the Police on the way to or from Mark's today... 'cause I think a body cavity search would be in my future.  I am wearing this for the guys today.

I'm guessing Mark picked a Grateful Dead song because Bob Weir passed away a couple days ago.  For those not familiar, he was a guitar player for the Grateful Dead.

--------

A good time with the guys today.  We worked up that Grateful Dead song (Friend of the Devil) and a couple others.  Plus played a bunch of other songs.  Mark, Danny, Gil, Carl, and me, making music.  I meant to get a photo with all of us, but the three other guys got out of there before I thought about it.  Cindy took this photo of Mark and me...

Yes, I did wear the shirt to practice.

My jam buddy mentioned Bob Weir's passing and wants to do "Ripple" now. I used to do that song years ago with the ukulele club, but not since. Problem is that he plays it solo (learned from tab years ago) and does not count in the pickup notes correctly. It will take some work if he wants me to join in before the second measure. We are tentatively planning an open mic duet for the end of the month. I don't do those much anymore....

I also learned "Friend of the Devil" a few year ago. We had a longstanding bluegrass jam and some new folks tried hard to turn it into a gospel-only jam. So I learned that tune just to piss them off. Nothing against gospel tunes, but start your own jam if that is what you want. Don't take over something that has been working fine as-is for 15+ years. (I also added Jimmy Buffet's "Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw" for the same purpose).

LOL. Well, aren't you a bit of a rebel! I get what you're saying about doing songs one or the other of you has been playing for a while. I have about 400 songs on my iPad song list, most of which I played solo for years (and many of those I can play without needing the iPad). I don't bring most of those to the group, as I tend to put my own spin on covers, and this group tends more towards "the official" charts. I think we have 60+ songs with this group... it's enough to keep us busy.

I have to admit that I had never heard Friend of the Devil until Mark sent me the chart on Sunday. I listened to it a couple times to get a feel for it. Mark sings this one, so I only have to remember what order to play the 4 chords. ;-)

You'll have to let me know how the open mic goes for you. I have never done one, but have been encouraged by both of the groups I play with here. Seems that they are mostly done in bars, and I'm not one to sit in a bar... probably a reaction to my "mostly feral" upbringing. I'll tell you about it some time.

Wow Jim that's a really cool shirt! You don't have to be a Deadhead to enjoy the music although i probably listen to the Grateful Dead 99.9 percent of the time while driving and at home. Wait does that mean I'm a Deadhead? Glad you guys were able to play a tune or two.

Thanks, DJDeves. I like all kinds of music, just never got into the Grateful Dead in my formative years. With 5 or 6 of us bringing songs to the group, I would call our song list eclectic. I have been listening to a group from Florida called Moonstone Riders - their jam style reminds a lot of GD.
