The Black Hills of the East...

We left the DC area this morning, waiting until 10:00 before heading out so we'd miss the commuter traffic.  Good plan...

The traffic was light for almost 10 minutes, then...

Bumper-to-bumper, stop-and-go... it took about 45 minutes to go 10 miles.  The traffic was heavy on the beltway (that's DC talk) and into Virginia...

The next destination is into the Shenandoah Valley.  After getting off the freeway, it was two lane cruising...

Heavily wooded and pretty hills, Joan and I thought the same thing at the same time: this kinda reminds us of the Black Hills...

Well, without the Ponderosa pine trees.  There were signs for touristy stuff, but instead of that, we will be looking to decompress and enjoy some quiet.  We truly enjoyed Washington DC and that area, but are looking for some natural beauty for a change.

Only a bit over 100 miles today.  Turning off the two lane road and onto the road to the RV park...

Yeah, this is going to be quieter.  ;-)

Checking into the park was a breeze: they had all our info and the lady checking me in said, "We upgraded the site you'll be in - this is one of the nicest in the park.  I'm sure you'll enjoy it."

"Thank you very much."  I joked with her about saying that to everyone who checks in..."I have you in a nice site right next to the dumpster - everybody loves that site!  It's so convenient!"

Turns out, it really is a great site...

And, Izzy approved!

Our view out the back...

Good utilities arrangement and... a clear shot for our satellite TV.  A decent Verizon data signal.  Plenty of grass for little Izzy to walk around and sniff.  And, as of right now, quiet.

Izzy is a happy girl!

On edit:

While I was working up the post above, Joan sat outside with Izzy.  There were a few other critters that Izzy could see from our site (photos by Joan)...

What was that?

Ah, a "spotted" cat.  An Appaloosa?  ;-)  Whatever you call it, Izzy kept her eyes on it...

Another view of the surrounding hills...

I joined them outside for a "concert"...

They are a good audience.  :-)

It was a pleasant afternoon, especially not being on the go.  A light sprinkle sent us inside.  Well, it was dry enough under the awning, the guitar is carbon fiber, but it was time for hors d'oeuvres, adult beverages, and the evening news.  We'll get out and about tomorrow.  Probably.

An early evening walk for Izzy... walking along the fence line, we could hear cows, roosters, and the occasional dog barking.  Nothing obtrusive - rural sounds... and so different from the traffic and city sounds we've been hearing for the past few weeks.  This park is very quiet right now.  I know that could all change if families with screaming kids come pouring in this weekend.  In the meantime, all three of us are enjoying the peace.
