It's about damn time...

We have had our heads into rolling west since the day we took Steph and Dan to the airport (after Christmas).  We have been able to take our time to get the motorhome ready and the house closed up.  Of course, some of it can't happen until the last few hours.

Joan was up early this morning.  I was up really early this morning.  I had already been up a couple hours when I took the first of the last loads out to the coach...

Pretty light before sunrise.  With the last of our personal items in the coach and the last of the house stuff done, we hooked the cargo trailer behind the CR-V and put the motorhome and the car/trailer on the street.  The tide was low, so we drove separate to get off the island.  As it turned out, it was not a steep incline/decline on our bridge.  We hooked up the whole circus train, checked lights one more time, and hit the road... all the way to Whataburger.

Joan went in to get us breakfast for the road, while I walked around the rig and triple-checked everything.

After 15 minutes, still no sign of Joan.  More than 20 minutes to get a couple breakfast sandwiches... good thing we aren't in a hurry.  I let Steph know that we were rolling, and got a photo of Rufus, who was patiently waiting...

He politely waited until we were done eating (he is not a mooch), then wanted some lap time...

This boy is a great traveler - no fussing, even though he hasn't been in the motorhome for 3 1/2 months.  He circulates between our laps and on his short tower.

We watched for a "weather window," planning and hoping for no rain and no adverse wind.  The weasels were calling for sunshine and a tailwind for today (the reason for this departure day).  Other than that bit of pretty light before the sun actually came up, it was gray.  No big deal, it is actually nice to drive with some "softer light."

The road is pretty much straight and flat on this first stretch.

Then, the sky got ominous...

Fortunately, that didn't last long.  Well, you couldn't see the sky all that much, thanks to the (0% chance of precip) rain...

Over half the trip today was on and off rain.  Rufus let us know that it was getting close to his lunch time...

A half hour from our intended stop for the night, fog...

We're on the outskirts of the big city, and plan to spend two nights here, before making our turn west.  Tomorrow is supposed to be windy out of the west.  Yes, the coach can handle it, but this will give us a day to acclimate to being RVers again... maybe do a bit of shopping and have a leisurely meal or two out.

It was a good first day out.  I'll get the water tanks/lines sanitized, the fresh water tank re-filled.  Rufus did great all day.  He has his toys, his "man cave," his short tower, meals on his regular schedule, and his people - he is a happy boy.

Cue the music: "On the road again..."

'Bout time.
