Foggy again...

Third morning in a row that we have awoke to fog.  That messes with travel to and from this island, since the options for getting here are by boat (Washington State Ferry or your own boat) or airplane.  We have quite a few guests who come in by seaplane...

It's a great way to get here: skip the hour and a half drive from Seattle to Anacortes (on a good traffic day), skip the two hour wait in line for the ferry, and the hour and 10 minute ferry ride.  Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the ferry ride, but really don't appreciate the "hurry up and wait" for the ferry situation.  Flying in by seaplane gives you great views and saves hours of time... IF the weather is cooperative.  And this is now three mornings in a row where the fog is going to be an issue... there has to be good visibility for those planes to come and go on the water.

When Kenmore Air delays or cancels flights, it means Joan is on the phone, scrambling to rebook guests, handling refunds, and filling empty seats.  Depending on the number of guests who are delayed or cancelled on flights, the boat I drive may not go out, or have a late departure.  Our trips are timed to coincide with ferry schedules, as well.  Fog starts the dominoes falling.

As we have coffee (hot chocolate for me) this morning, we both look out at the fog.  It's kinda pretty...

But, we both know it's going to mess with our day.

On edit:  Yep.  I had two trips scheduled for today... the first one went away with the fog.  It wasn't until after I was dressed and about to head for the truck that I found out that trip was off.  All dressed up and no place to go... I walked to our Friday Harbor office to see if Joan needed anything from the store - I now had time for a real breakfast.

Joan was hard at it, rescheduling and shuffling.

The weather weasels were calling for clearing conditions by 8:00... still foggy at 10:20.  There's a half mile visibility on the water, but the ceiling has a ways to go before it will be VFR conditions for the planes to get in.

My afternoon trip is a charter for a wedding party.  I assume they are already on the island.  Who knows - the fog may lift by 3:00 this afternoon.  ;-)
