Another day, another J...
J-Pod, that is.
Driving out of Roche Harbor again today. The report I had put the whales on the west side, heading up-island... perfect! When we left the dock, the latest report put the trailing whales just outside Roche, where Haro Strait and Spieden Channel come together.
OK, that takes the uncertainty out of the trip. We had some nice viewing as the whales moved north; on the west side of Stuart Island, across Boundary Pass, and we left them at North Pender Island (in the Canadian Gulf Islands), where they were still moving north.
Some views...
Yes, it was a gray day, as you can tell from the photos. The weather weasels weren't calling for rain, but it sure smelled like it.
We took the "scenic route" back to Roche, going through John's Pass, the Cactus Islands, and along the south side of Spieden Island. Along the way, we saw bald eagles, seals, a turkey vulture, and sitka deer and mouflon sheep. It has been a while since I've seen any of the land critters on Spieden...
On the way back into the harbor, it started to sprinkle. At the dock, we said our good-byes to our guests and started the boat clean-up. Yes, we still have to spray down the boat with fresh water, even in the light rain.
By the time I got to my scooter for the ride home, the rain stopped. I debated putting on rain gear for the ride home... nahh. Turned out I didn't need it.
Little Izzy got to have some outdoor time... until it started sprinkling again. She was curled up under our small outdoor table, so she didn't feel the raindrops. I had the "You need to be smart enough to come in out of the rain" talk... she said, "I am dry under this table - you are standing out in the rain."
The cat can be a bit of a smart-ass sometimes.

Great pics Jim! You're on top of your game this week!!!
There's a game? Are we keeping score? Did I get picked last again?? ;-)
Thanks for the kind words, Mark. Lots of good photo-ops to be had here... if I can get the time to pull the camera out.
