Camp Verde...

Some touristing around the area today.

Izzy likes the grounds in the RV park - plenty of good grass to walk in.  She got some walking time in this morning before Joan and I headed out.  Joan wanted to check out Camp Verde - she read about the general store there.

Camp Verde is on the other side of Kerrville from where we are staying; we drove around the area a bit before heading there - plenty of fun roads in Hill Country...

Camp Verde was a former Army facility, established in the 1850s as a headquarters for the US Camel Corps - they experimented with using camels as pack animals in the southwestern US.  It didn't work: horses and mules feared the camels, and soldiers couldn't control them and detested the smell.

Camp Verde is on the National Register of Historic Places.  The "General Store"...

I put that in quotes - it is a large gift shop, with all kinds of unique items.  There is also a very popular restaurant that is only open from 11:00 to 3:00.  Make reservations or take your chances.  Joan had a great time looking around; I mostly entertained myself reading the signs they have for sale...

Beautiful grounds around the restaurant and store - we spent some time walking around...

A beautiful warm day here in Hill Country.  Nice to kick back and get acclimated once again to humidity.
