I've written about the hot weather here in Phoenix, with record breaking high temperatures late into the season. It hasn't all been hot in Arizona, however: the Arizona Snowbowl Ski Area is set to open tomorrow, two weeks ahead of usual, and the earliest this ski area has ever opened.
"A ski area in Arizona?" you ask. Yes, indeed, and thanks for asking. There are three main ski areas in Arizona, and a fourth smaller one. In the Flagstaff area, they get over 100" of snow annually... and it has been snowier than usual this season.

"So, are you two going skiing?" Not in this lifetime. We used to ski when we were young, lived in the frozen northland, and were more flexible and energetic. And then we came to our senses and started going to warm places in the winter. And, now... here we are.
I guess it was a slow news day after the election results yesterday, so the local network news outlets were excitedly talking about this early opening and all the snow they've had in northern Arizona. For the record, it is a couple hundred miles north of us, but 6,000 to 7,000' higher elevation.
Yeah, slow news day. ;-) And sometimes I like talking about our new home state.
It was in the upper 40s when I took Murphy out this morning... yes, that is chilly. But, beautiful sunshine, no wind, no humidity. Oh, and no snow.

We have been getting overnight lows in the 20's here the last week. The leaves are pretty much all down, and roofs are frosted every morning. Even Lucy is spending a lot more time indoors and loves the electric blanket on her side of the bed. Summer is done. We might hit 52° for a high today if it stays sunny.
I have to tell this story Once when we lived in Alaska, Alice flew down to AZ to visit her parents in Sun City. The first thing they did was take a road trip (long drives are not her favorite thing) up to Flag to go skiing. We had a ski area 30 miles south of us in Anchorage, but she was looking forward to some sun and warmth in the middle of winter. Not.
Yeah, it was a change of pace for Alice's parents... maybe they just wanted to show off the "weather diversity" in AZ?
