We are happy to not be traveling at the end of this holiday weekend. Being retired means we can pick our times to get out and about. That said, we did make a run to PetSmart this afternoon... and traffic on the surface roads between us and PetSmart was light.
I spent most of the day doing research - yes, for the new model HoverAir drone. It has been out for a while, so there are plenty of videos on YouTube. In typical internet fashion, there are some YouTubers who have put together good information on this drone... and even more who do an "unboxing" and "let's use it without looking at the operating instructions."
Jim, you mean someone on the internet is wrong??
Oh, that hardly ever happens. (insert HUGE sarcastic emoji here)

More Monsoon Weather...
Not a haboob this time, but localized thunderstorms, with gust fronts ahead of them. Gusts in the 50 to 60 mph range around us. South Mountain disappeared for about 20 minutes in the blowing dirt in those gusts. Thunder happening around us right now, but the radar looks like the worst of it will go north or south of us...
As you can see in that screenshot above, a pretty good cell moving over Phoenix, and a "ground stop" at Sky Harbor Airport. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning for us for the next half hour or so.
Looking at the week ahead forecast, it looks like a chance of more of the same happening each day for the next 5; with the biggest chance of storms on Thursday. 'Tis the season. Monsoon Season, that is.

Our big storm front blew through last Thursday, damaging lots of trees and causing a rockslide in the mountains on a couple of highways. Then yesterday we hit 101°, right behind you. Only 99° today though. Boise gets pretty hot in late summer. But it was 66° overnight and the whole house fan has cooled the interior down nicely. Our AC usually doesn't kick on until about 6 pm.
Alice is settled into jazz flute camp in Carmel Valley for the week. She splashed in the ocean and visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium (again) yesterday. I worked on its design many years ago and we have visited many times. We did our open water scuba dives near there back in '93.
Hey Earl. That sounds like a nasty storm. A chance of afternoon thunderstorms here the rest of this week. I'm looking to the south right now, where Tropical Storm Lorena is predicted to come across Baja and the Sea of Cortes - it is likely to have some effect in Arizona and New Mexico, probably by this weekend. Even though we are land-locked, these tropical storms are still a potential for finding us.
Carmel Valley sounds like a pleasant place to be right now. Does she call each day to check in on the kitties. Oh, and you, too. ;-)
The standard rule is: if you don't hear from me, I'm having too much fun to call. We share iPhone locations (tracking device) so we both know where we are. But she will not call until Friday night or maybe Saturday once camp is finished. She flies home from San Jose on Sunday. I did share an adorable photo of Duke sleeping on my lap yesterday. The boy misses his mommy and is suffering this week. I'm not as good.
Last week was my regular Alaskan guitar camp (www.acousticalaska.com) which always ends on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. Since I no longer fly, it has been a while but I always miss them... I am awaiting a debrief from friends who go every year but it takes a few days to recover. Alice always bemoaned me going to guitar camp for a week every year, but now they have various flute camps that she can attend. And she is making the most of it. Her final trip for the year is Japan at the end of October.
Along with the winds that storm brought 1.5"" of rain to Boise and 2.5" in the mountains, hence the rockslides.
Hi Earl - you know what works for you. On the rare occasions that Joan and I are apart, we talk every day. Enjoy your solo kitty time. Nice that Alice can get away to do her flute thing, with you holding down the fort at home.
