Victoria...

Up before the sun at Sidney Spit...

We cleaned up, had a hearty breakfast, then hit the road... um, waterway.  The water was smooth as glass...

Destination today: Victoria.  We went about the same distance as yesterday, but burned more fuel - after running at displacement speed most of the time, I decided we should take advantage of that beautiful smooth water.  Running at 16+ knots, we averaged 2.4 miles per gallon.  Typical when we’re heavily loaded.

Since we ran faster, we pulled into the Victoria Inner Harbour before “check-in time.”  Not a problem - the Causeway Docks were less than 1/2 occupied.  The young lady manning the radio met us at the dock and checked us in on the spot.  We plugged in, topped off water, got Izzy all set up, then went on a walk-about.

Victoria is a great city; one of our favorite places to visit by boat.  It’s a big city, but you are right downtown at the Inner Harbour Docks, so it is easy to get around by foot.  The city has a very international feel to it.

After walking around downtown, we had lunch at a restaurant with outdoor seating, enjoying the beautiful weather.  Then, a walk along the waterfront to the “Fishermans Wharf marina.  We enjoy looking at the floating houses...

Did you get that sign?  (A float house)

Spending winter in one of those would have the potential for being very cold, so we aren’t planning to trade houses anytime soon.

We walked back along the waterfront path, then around the Inner Harbour.

This is not a quiet place.  There are musicians playing along the waterfront, and all kinds of commercial boats, sea planes and water taxis coming and going.  Our place on the dock is very close to the water taxi stand.  Little Izzy is not sure about all the commotion... she peeks out the window once in a while, looks worried, then ducks down again.  Molly wanted to be out in all this when we were here last... Izzy, not so much.

One of the great views in the Inner Harbour is after dark, when the lights come on on the Parliament Building...

An overall view...

The Empress Hotel...

And the marina at the Causeway Docks is right in the middle of all of it.

Great photos Jim.

Victoria is one of my favorite places too, though we've not taken our boat there (yet). Walked on the ferry from Port Angeles once and off the cruise ship this summer.

Any issues wrt your potty? We don't have a MSD and don't plan to install one so that's a concern to me for going to Canada. We have a Portapotty for the V-Berth but use Wag Bags with a bucket instead (probably TMI) :)

Hi V,
Thanks for the kind words - nice to have the time to shoot images. ;-)

No issue with the potty. Our boat has a Sealand marine toilet. I know there are others who use a porta-potty with no issues. IIRC, you have to have a porta-potty "attached."

The actual marina washrooms/showers/laundry are about a block and a half walk from the Causeway Docks (our favorite place). There are closer bathrooms at the Visitors Centre on the waterfront.

I know there are "potty discussions" regarding entry into Canada on the different forums, but I'm not aware of anyone who has even been asked about it. Plenty of C-Dory 22 owners who travel in Canada (and they all use a porta-potty).

Victoria by boat is great - you can be in the Inner Harbour and be in the middle of all the action. And from there, the Gulf Islands, Desolation Sound, and beyond. Of course, you may not want to go home (until the really cold weather settles in!!).
