T'was a quiet night at Montegue Harbor (after we left the Hummingbird Pub)...
we were treated to a beautiful morning. With the pretty light coming in
the window, little Izzy posed for a “portrait session”...
We headed out around 9:30 to catch the most favorable current. Today, I was determined to keep my hand off the throttle and see just how many miles per gallon we could make... we did around 20 miles, running between 6 and 8 knots... and according to the fuel flow meter, we used 2.7 gallons. Not a fair usage, since we had at least two knots of current most of the time; but a new record: 7.4 miles per gallon. Realistically, at displacement speed, we see about 5 mpg with no current. About half that when running on plane.
Along the way, we saw some beautiful scenery...
I do like the way the further islands are silhouetted in the morning and afternoon light.
We didn’t have a fixed destination in mind and decided to stop at Sidney Spit - maybe for a walk, or maybe for the night. There were a few boats on mooring balls and anchored, and 4 other boats at the dock. Pretty quiet, considering it is another absolutely gorgeous day.
A great day for a walk through the woods. The scenery on Sidney Spit offers a lot of variety...
And a look back towards the good ol’ USA, with Mt. Baker in the background...
We think this was holly...
By the time we got back to the dock, there were a few more boats there; still not enough to call it a crowd. Joan made us a late lunch; there was some talk about getting the kayaks down, but the call of a nap won out. Tough schedule.
We decided to settle in for the evening.
