Heading to Spencerport

We walked to the showers; it’s a muggy day, so we were already sticky by the time we got back to the boat. We called the lift bridge when we were ready to shove off, and they started opening the bridge while we were pulling away from the wall.

We went 25 miles today, went through 2 locks, under 2 lift bridges, but I don’t think we’ll spend 2 days in Spencerport.

This portion of the Erie Canal is still heavily wooded, but there are more signs of civilization. We are still on the outskirts of Rochester, but you’d never know it from the canal. Plenty of bridges and the trail; quite a few homes, and then just lots of trees.

At one point, in the distance we could see sailboats... they were darting back and forth across the canal. As we got closer, they still seemed far away... no, just small radio controlled sailboats. Looks like a fun way to pass the day.

We could also see signs that autumn isn’t too far away... the ground cover is changing color, as are a few of the trees. We were surprised by this, considering all the moisture they’ve received and the fact that it hasn’t been cooling off at night, yet.

We passed a lot of people using the canal trail, biking and walking. I tried our horn to honk to a group that waved... and no sound. Joan went out to check the horn (it’s under the “eyebrow” above the windshield. Yeah, it looks corroded. Another thing to add to the list.

We pulled into Spencerport around 2:00. There are storms predicted for this evening, so we decided to pull in early.

Here’s how a couple local kids are keeping cool...

Yep, paddling down the canal in an inflatable swimming pool.
