Sad to see it go...

No, I'm not talking about the old dock.

Today is November 1st.  Some think this is the "official" end of hurricane season, but that is actually November 30th... not talking about that, either.  With Halloween out of the way, we're truly into the Christmas season?  No, still too early for me to think about that.

Today is the last day of Daylight Savings Time.  Remember to "fall back" with all your clocks tonight... or tomorrow morning.  I like sunrise; it will now come an hour earlier.  Oh, in another month or so, it will be back to just about the same time.  BUT, we pay for it by dark coming an hour sooner in the evening.  Or, if you live up in the frozen northland, in the afternoon.

I'm not really sure how moving our clocks twice a year saves much of anything.  Our daughter and son-in-law live in Arizona, and they don't make this change... they seem to be fine without it.  ;-)  Yes, I remember the days of the first "oil crisis" and the discussion of how we will get "more" daylight for summer evenings.  We take care of that by going north in the summer - plenty of light early and late.  The further north you go, the more light you get.  Then the opposite of that in the winter.  The closer you get to the equator, the less change.

No, I'm not suggesting we "tilt the earth" twice a year.  But, who likes coming home from work in the dark?  What's that?  Yeah, we aren't working, so what do we care?  When we lived in the frozen northland, in the winter it was dark when we went to work and dark before we came home from work.  We took care of that problem by eliminating working.  ;-)

No, I'm not suggesting we eliminate employment.  Sheesh, give me a break.  I'm just saying we should be more like Arizona: find a time you like and stay with it.  I own more clocks and watches now than when we were gainfully employed.  Not really sure why, 'cause our bellies tell us when it is time to eat, and the first sign of a yawn means it may be time to go to bed.

And this whole "you get an extra hour to sleep in" thing... government propaganda.  Like taking your tax money and "giving" you a refund - it was your money to start with!  Where did that hour go last spring?  Yeah, the hour we all "lost."

Remember to "fall back" tonight.

I think that they have compounded the problem by pushing the change back into November. Now, it is still light when the kids start trick-or-treating. They also start so early in the evening (afternoon) that a lot of people aren't even home from work yet.

That isn't an issue where we live, Charlie. We had the same number of trick or treaters as last year. And the year before that. And the year before that. Zero. Mostly retired folks on our island. Some of them might be incline to go house to house on their golf carts, looking for someone to top off their drink. ;-)
