Day off...
It was a busy work week for both of us. Last week on our days off, the weather wasn't as gorgeous as we've been having lately. And, today is another gorgeous day!
Breakfast out was first on the agenda...
It was quiet at our favorite breakfast place; the ferry reservation system has had an impact on the restaurants here... there is no need to get your car in line an hour and a half or two ahead of time. Lots of folks would put their car in line, then walk to one of the nearby restaurants for breakfast, knowing they had plenty of time to kill.
Next stop: the grocery store. Joan was dividing up who would carry what on the scoots...
Heading back home (we have ice cream that needs to go in the freezer)...
We were behind one of those ScootCoupes - quite a bit slower than our PCXes. Once back at our site, Joan put away groceries while I took Iz for a walk. The next event is scooting around the island, but first: some chill-time. Joan's style...
Little Izzy's style...
And mine...
I've mentioned our site, and the placement by an older, unoccupied mobile home...
Plenty of space.
Off on the scoots. We wanted to see some roads we haven't traveled before. The first one took us on a loop through mostly open land, with some nice homes (not close to the road). Nice riding...
Then, to one of our old favorites: False Bay Road...
Up the west side, and the first view of Haro Strait...
Then, Joan's choice for a new road: up Mount Dallas. It started as a narrow road...
Kinda two lane. Heavily forested...
The road got narrower...
Really narrow...
Back this far in the forest, the moss grows on all sides of the trees. And on the rocks...
Back to the main road and north to Roche Harbor to get something off the boat. The first signs that you are in Roche...
I suggested Roche Harbor Road for the ride home. The traffic is still pretty light, but there were cars in front of us on this section of road...
The speed limit is 45 mph; these guys were doing about 35, with occasional speed bursts to 37. It's my day off - I don't care. And the scooters are just as much fun at 35 mph as they are at 45. We turned off on Egg Lake Road - some very nice twisties and no traffic. Eventually making our way home. And more kickin' back.
Nice way to spend a day off.

Very provocative. I can imagine a summer in the islands with the scooter riding ferries exploring hidden roads and never leaving San Juan County. Hmm
Interesting finding new roads on this island. Still enjoying the "re-runs," too.
