Left the camera home...

It wasn't an accident - I just wanted to ride today.  We rode to Hill City for lunch at the Alpine Inn... good food, and a nice ride getting there.  Over lunch, we decided to ride to Sturgis to take a look at the BMW, even though we know we can't take it home (at this point).

More fine riding, north on Hwy 385, Rimrock Highway, Norris Peak Road, Nemo Road, Vanocker Canyon.  Yeah, you've heard those names before and seen photos.  Traffic was almost non-existant, the weather was lovely, and the riding was great.  We rolled into Sturgis and out to Sturgis Motosports.

Before I could get off the bike, a guy came up to me and said, "I have never seen one of these in person (a Vespa of the current vintage) - do you like it?"  We visited for a while; he seemed harmless (and had gotten off a Goldwing) so I asked if he wanted to sit on the scoot... "Yes, if you really don't mind."  Hey, I wasn't going to toss him the keys and say, "Take it up Boulder Canyon," or anything.  He was going on about the Vespa to his wife... there was a bit of eye-rolling on her part.  I get that - the passenger accommodations aren't up to the same level as the Goldwing.  ;-)

Before we could get in the door, a guy on an R1200RT came over to look at the scoots.  I think he was more amused than interested.  He said, "I'll trade you even up your two scooters for this bike."

I said, "You're going to have to come up with another bike to throw in - you notice this pretty lady rides her own bike."  We discussed BMWs for a bit; Joan told him she is on her way inside to look at the new BMW scoot she ordered.

Finally, we got inside and found Dick (the owner).  He didn't have any more information from BMW, other than the "stop sale" had something to do with the brakes.  He has not been able to get anything else out of them at this point.

Joan asked if we could see the scoot, and Dick walked us to his nearby shop building...over the rocks, down a path, across the railroad tracks, and then some more rocks.  And that was the short-cut.  You could stay on pavement and go around a block or so to get to the building.

And, there it is...

It is a muscle-y looking scoot; definitely bigger in stature than the PCX.  We didn't take the time to roll the scoot out from where it was sitting for any better photos, so you have to look beyond all the other bikes around it.  We both sat on it, but that was it.  The battery isn't in it, so we couldn't even start it up.  Another time.  Well, assuming BMW gives the OK and Joan decides the "stop sale" isn't a stop for her.  Dick certainly understands and said he'd do whatever we want.  Right now, we'll wait to get more information.

Joan told Dick, "I think he (me) is more anxious than I am."  Well, I have been doing a lot of studying up on all the tech stuff this scoot has.

We walked back around, said our good-byes to Dick and his daughter and got ready for some more riding...

With the scoots we rode here.  More fine riding on the way home.  Both scoots got a scrub-down... it was a bit buggy today.

We covered a bunch of miles today - got to fill the scoots twice.  I got 94.1 mpg on the first tank, and 94.6 on the second tank (more highway miles).  Joan got 118 mpg on the first tank and "less than that" on the second tank... seems the PCX uses more gas at highway speeds.  The black PCX (at home) seems to get better mileage than this one... but, the red one is peppier.
