Gearing up...

Off to Brownsville to pick up some stuff (only reasonably local option for Harbor Freight and Guitar Center), then north to the Harlingen area to put some stuff in the motorhome.

We decided to pull it out of storage, make the relatively short drive to Sam's Club to fuel up and add some air to the tires.  Gas was about 20¢ a gallon cheaper there than stations near our home.  Diesel was over 30¢ a gallon less expensive, so the truck got topped off, too.

I am really liking the size of the Aspect - we fit under that gas station overhang with no problem; easy size to maneuver in tight spaces.

I have my head into rolling north; it will be sometime next week, but I am ready now.  I like this part of the country, but, really, there seems to be a more intense collection of gawd-awful drivers here than anyplace else we have ever been.  People who wander from lane to lane, one woman who pulled out of a parking lot and turned left into oncoming traffic - because she wanted to pull into the next driveway.  Really messed up traffic flow on a busy street.  When we stopped for lunch, there was the guy in a small Toyota who drove over the curb while making a turn... really, it was a Corolla, not a semi.  I see more people talking on their phones or texting while driving than not.  Cars cutting across 4 lanes of traffic to make an exit on the right - at the last possible moment.  Pulling into the parking lot at Guitar Center reminded me of Shriners driving go-carts in a parade... well, not as organized.  People backing out of parking spots by braile - no point in wasting all that time looking behind you as you back up.  If you pull away from an intersection when the light turns green, you are taking your life in your hands due to the idiots who run red lights here.  Stops signs?  Ha - I laugh at your puny stop signs!  And don't get me started on the lazy-ass people who leave shopping carts in a parking spot... that is just a few steps away from the cart-corral.

I am aware that people in every part of the country think they have the worst drivers.  Those people would be wrong.

Tell us how that works out as you drive north ;) 'specially through Portland/Seattle

Oh, Tim, those Seattle (and Portland) drivers are down right polite compared to here. We have driven through there a bunch of times. In fact, the only time I ever had any drivers there be anything less than polite was when we flew in and rented a car. Come to think of it, it had California plates... ohhhhhhh. ;-)
