Rolling...

A 3-state day: Arizona, New Mexico, and just into Texas.  We extended the 2/2/2 Rule to 3/3/1.

Not much to look at on I-10 along this route...

Plenty of bugs were sacrificed to the windshield, though.  No big cities to pass through.

The motorhome has about twice the range that we were getting with the truck and 5th wheel... not because the fuel mileage is better - the fuel tank is just over twice the size.  On the bright side, since we are driving separate (no, that isn't the bright side), Joan got over 21 mpg with the truck, so our fuel stops work out to about every 400 miles.  I paid $1.96 for unleaded just across the Texas border.  We saw it as high as $2.45 enroute... Gas Buddy (an app) is your friend - it let us know that there were better prices ahead.  Well, for gas; diesel was $2.60.  In Tucson, where we filled the truck, gas and diesel were close in price.

Stopping for lunch is easy with the motorhome.  Not that it was difficult with the 5th wheel, but the dinette in the motorhome is easily accessible without putting any slides out.  We pulled into a rest area in New Mexico for lunch...

The RV parking is separate from the semi parking - nice to not have the noise of a big truck running right next to you.  Izzy, especially, appreciates that.  I didn't see much of her while driving - she tends to lay on a nightstand in back, where she can see out the window... even though Joan sets her bed up on the passenger seat.  We are down for the day, and she is sitting right by me... I would say it is because she is crazy about me, but it might be that it is getting close to supper time.

We saw a big roadrunner today in New Mexico...

Anyone recognize that location?  Yeah, me neither.

Driving separate isn't as much fun, but we did call each other a few times to see about stops or the occasional "Did you see that?"

We have stopped by that roadrunner on several occasions traveling east on I-10. Long boring road. we used to critique our podcasts on those trips.

Hi John and Kathy - hope all is going well with you two. Driving separate, I couldn't even talk with my Honey... makes the road seem even longer.

Best wishes,
Jim
