Got Q?

After some kitty-sitting this morning (I thought Izzy was fast, but our grand-cat, Jake, is like a streak of gray lightning after he's had breakfast!!), we set out on the scooters.  Oh, we set out after I ordered a couple windshields for them... hopefully, they will show up before we head out.

Today, we had a definite destination in mind: Famous Dave's Bar-B-Q.  A mere 25 miles from our door to theirs.  Joan mapped out a route to keep us off the freeways (the only way we know).  We are seeing many different parts of the Phoenix area since we are avoiding highways.  Today, we drove by some nice areas, and some less than nice.  We wound up passing through Sun City... the scooters fit in fine with the golf carts on the streets.  A zig here, a zag there; we wound up on Bell Road for quite a while.  Plenty of traffic, but the scoots handled it fine.

Lunch at Famous Dave's was mighty fine.  When we came out...

After I took the photo, we were getting our gear out for the ride back (Yes, Stephanie, we wear helmets, gloves, and jackets)... a couple came up to us and asked, "Those look like fun - how fast will they go?"  We're getting used to that question; someone asks it every time we are out on the scooters.  After we talked a bit, he said, "We rode motorcycles for years, too.  Now, we're on a trike - it looks like you are having more fun, though."

With that conversation over, we were ready to pull away.  I motioned to a lady heading for her car to go ahead and walk past us.  She said, "No, I just want to stand her and watch you two zoom away.  Those look like so much fun!"

If you delve into the scooter culture, you will find some ride because it saves money.  Others will tell you how it is less impact on the environment ("... all those cars out there with only one person in them...").  The high miles per gallon.  I gotta tell you, it's just easy and fun!  You can maneuver these things around with very little effort.  I thought the shifting, accelerating, and leaning was the best part of motorcycle riding... not shifting (automatic), but still accelerating and leaning is just as much fun.  We rode as much as we wanted to today, and used about a gallon of gas between us.

We took a different route on the way back.  There was a short bit of road construction, but the narrow lane made no difference to us.  We came by a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market; never been in one, so we made a quick stop.  Pretty much a grocery store without all the stuff Wal-Marts had before they became Super Centers with grocery stores.

Back on the road, a city worker in a truck pulled up alongside us at a stop light.  "Are those gas or electric?" he asked.  When we told him they were gas, he wanted to know... (yep) "How much and how fast?"  And then said, "Those look like a lot of fun!"

I am convinced that part of what makes people ask about them is the fact that we are riding two scooters.  Same bike, different color.  We look approachable.  Oh, and we got quite a few waves from other motorcyclists today, about half of them Harley riders.

Maybe it's true: maybe you do meet the nicest people on a Honda. ;-)
