Dumb things you hear at Mt. Rushmore...

When we lived in the Hills, one of the dumber things I heard was: "What do they do with it in the wintertime?  Today, I heard: "Did they have to bring in all these rocks to build it?"  Perhaps a Go-Fund-Me is in order to buy that woman a clue?

I had suggested we go to Mt. Rushmore for breakfast this morning.  Truth be told, I just wanted to get out and riding.  It was comfortably cool when we geared up and got ready to ride...

As usual, we took curvy back roads to Keystone...

Rolling through Keystone...

On the last leg to Mt. Rushmore...

Our parking passes got us in for free.  I checked my camera before we walked up to the memorial... the battery crapped out.  Phone photos from here on.

The prices for breakfast weren't out of line, but the tables were nearly all full; not from people eating - they had a program going on: a "Presidential press conference" with... yep, George, Thomas, Teddy, and Abe.  The actors playing the part were quite good...

They even accepted questions from the audience after their prepared remarks.  Nicely done.

We took the time to walk around the grounds a bit today...

It will be crazy busy at the Memorial tomorrow, with a special evening presentation and fireworks over the monument.  We're both crowd-aversive, so it was nice to take it in this morning.

Heading out, the Lone Star State flag...

From Mt. Rushmore, we rode west to Hill City - it is a great motorcycle road, with nice sweeping turns.  A moderately slow-moving Lexus SUV kept us (and traffic behind us) below legal speed limits.  Hill City was hopping; we didn't stop, except to gas up the scoots.  Joan, of course, topped 100 mpg (by a good amount); I got my best mileage yet on the Vespa of 84 mpg.  Impressive, considering our sporting riding through the hills and curves.

On the highway out of Hill City, we came across a grooved road surface.  Joan didn't notice it much with her PCX, it pulled uncomfortably on the Vespa... I had to slow down.  Once past that, we picked up the pace on Hwy 16, until we could pick up the Rockerville Road turn off and get back to some nice quiet twisty roads again.

Another beautiful day in the Black Hills.

The Dumbest thing I ever heard:

I was a Snowmobile Tour Guide for a few Seasons in VT Taking Folks out into the Mountains in the Green National Forest-- V.A.S.T Trails..
vtvast.org

I would stop my Tour now and again out in the middle of Nowhere to see how everyone was doing-- One time a Guy asked me "Where Did All The Snow Come From? I Don't See Any Snowmaking Equipment-- Did You Truck it in??" I shit you not-- That's what the Man said..
I told him that we're in the Mountains of VT and it just Falls from the Sky-- He looked Bewildered..

I think he was from N.Y.C...

I'm so glad to hear the fireworks show off the top of Mt Rushmore is happening again. The Western Pine Beetle problem has been taken care of?

No, but there has been a lot of rain (so far) this season. It's been almost two years since we've been back to Hart Ranch - it is looking good!
