Well, that was different...

More riding today.  No, that isn't the different part.  In fact, we rode the same route as Monday, hoping for fewer vehicles.  We must be living right!

Heading out of Hart Ranch, I'm assuming this guy was looking for "a freeway of love"...

50 bonus points if you said, "The Queen of Soul: Aretha Franklin, 1985."

Riding through the curvy stuff to get to more of the curvy stuff...

If you made it through the video of Iron Mountain Road from Monday, you know what we were looking for... just not as congested.  Just as we had hoped...

A stop at a Custer State Park Pay Station...

A look at "the stuff" on the Vespa...

On to Needles Highway again...

Blissfully empty road!  We stopped at an overlook just before Needles Eye...

Not a huge crowd around Needles Eye Tunnel, either...

We didn't run into crowds until we turned off the highway to check out the Sylvan Lake Day Use Area...

People there in a panic to find a parking place!  We rolled through and got out of there.  More nice riding the rest of the way home...

A couple things stood out today, besides the great riding: even more bikes on the road.  Way fewer trucks and vans, and a lot more motorcycles.  We even passed a Vespa going the other way.  Joan was guessing it was a rental because the driver was wearing flip-flops.  No se, I'm not aware of anyone renting Vespas around here, especially riding two up.

There was a rental Class C motorhome on the other side of this tunnel...

I guess the driver didn't real the height and width measurements posted at the beginning of this road... it is going to be backing a long ways on that narrow highway before he finds a place to turn around.

Buying a cheap Chinese action cam is a bit like buying a cheap Chinese scooter: it isn't going to be made as well as a US/Japanese/Italian model.  The camera is doing fine, but the remote (that makes it so functional on the scooter) crapped out.  For a while.  I did a bit of "in the field surgery" on it while stopped by the side of the road.  It didn't work again until we got home, so most of the photos above were taken with my pressing the actual shutter button on the camera... yes, having to take a hand of the grip.  Old school.

I did shoot some more video, too, but I won't burden you with that until I can spend some time with a bit of editing.

When we got back to Hart Ranch, Joan had a message that there was a package at the mail room for us.  I took her PCX to the Lodge to pick up the packages - that Honda felt small after being on the Vespa the past couple months.  The Vespa is more "spacious" for me, the PCX still feels more sporty.

What about the packages?  One was a "gift" for doing a review of the action cam: an assortment of camera accessories...

No, that is not a thong I'm holding - it is a chest harness.  That thing on my head - it's a camera mount for your head or helmet.  There is a band to the inside of it that really holds - I thought I was going to remove some forehead skin getting it off.  (careful with that statement)  There's also a floating handle, a suction mount (to stick the camera on the side of your car - !?!?!), and another funky single battery charger.  Nothing there I couldn't live without, but it was free (even the shipping) if you posted a review for the camera.  Seems a bit like buying reviews, but you have to get the word out.

Another beautiful day (no storms!) and some nice riding.  My ass may need a break in the next day or two.  ;-)

On edit:

One other thing that was different today: a lot of debris from the trees in the road...

That's a screen grab from one of the videos I shot today.  Leaves and pine needles on the road, mostly clear of the tire track parts of the road, but not always.  Even with light traffic, we had to pick our way - those pine needles can be slippery.

This evening around the coach, my boy Rufus was being especially sweet...

A boy and his cat.  :-)
