Rockin' and Rollin'...

Not the guitar playing... Mother Nature.  Another severe thunderstorm is rolling through the area.  North of us has gotten ping-pong ball size hail.  So far, we have been getting strong gusty winds in excess of 60mph and pounding rain.  The coach is a rockin' 'n rollin'!  The windshield cover is flapping in the wind, and nothing I can do about it... I'm not going out in this crap.  Lightning all around us.  And looking at the radar, we have a ways to go before it moves over us.

The weather warnings are running constantly on the local TV channels.

Rufus jumped when that first clap of thunder roared...I pet him and told him, "It's OK."  He believes me.  I have never felt the coach move this much, and we're just starting to see some hail.  The rain is pounding so hard we can barely see the RV next to us.  This shit ain't pretty.

The satellite TV went out (wonder where we'll find the satellite?), the park's cable TV is out, so we switched to antenna to get the local stations.  I saw a couple lawn chairs blow behind our coach - not ours... I'm currently looking to see if there is an old lady on a bicycle out there (Wizard of Oz reference).

Down here in the Meadowlands, there aren't any mature trees - do doubt there is going to be some damage from tree limbs in the main part of the park.

A Flash Flood Warning just started blaring on my phone - that got our attention.  We aren't far from Spring Creek and are in the lowest part of the resort... yeah, we'll be watching.

Normally, we wouldn't be able to see out our windshield while parked, because there is (was) a windshield cover on there...

The view from other windows...

Keeping an eye on weather radar...

Good marketing - the ad on that app is from a Roof Repair & Leak Specialist!  ;-)

And Rufus resting on his short tower during all the commotion...

The sky looked ominous earlier, but this wind and pounding rain came on hard, and all at once.  Another half hour and this series of storms should be past us.  Joan just pulled up area radar: looks like more of the same behind this one.

Nothing we can do about the weather, so Joan put a pizza on the pizza cooker... the rain is pounding so hard we can't hear the TV, but we can eat.  ;-)

Sure seems to have been an active summer storm season so far here in the Black Hills.

------------

Update: Just after 10:00pm; still some thunder, but the rain is finally getting lighter.  Flooding in some areas in the Hills.  I did go out with a flashlight and look around.  What Joan though was someone slamming car doors was our windshield cover slapping on the driver's door.  I didn't see any damage via the flashlight, but we'll look around in the light tomorrow.  Our patio furniture is all still there, as is the satellite cube.  It is soggy and still lightly raining.  The local weather is saying over 2" of rain this evening.  Quite a bit of standing water in the RV sites I could see; ours seems to have reasonable drainage.

Much quieter now... we can hear the TV.  ;-)

We used to call the Meadowlands "Purgatory Flats" as there were no sewer hookups. They used to put Coast to Coast and RPI members down there. Hopefully its a little nicer there now.

Still no sewer, but it isn't bad. Just not a good comparison with the nice sites above. ;-)

Oh, and a couple more thoughts about the Meadowlands: still beats having to move to a different campground - have you seen the prices in the Black Hills? The Mt Rushmore KOA is charging a $10 per night "resort fee," and $3 per pet... on top of their already high rates.

New owner/memberships do not have the "buying your 9 days out" option - they have to go somewhere else.

While we don't use a lot of the amenities that Hart Ranch offers, it is a great location (as you well know).

I worked at the pool all 4 years we were there, managing it the last 2. That "part time summer job" got to be 50 hours a week or often more. Kathy was a waitress at the restaurant before becoming the maintenance secretary. We loved the park, but after 4 summers, it was time to move on. We still love the Black Hills and all there is to offer there.

Hi John,
I think that was around the time we first corresponded. I understand how "fun summer jobs" can expand. For us, Hart Ranch has always been a relaxing escape, especially when we lived in Spearfish. The park is looking good and being well kept up - it is still the park that I compare all others to in our travels.
