When we move from the boat to the house to the RV to the house to the boat (which we seem to do), the thing that takes the longest is... changing batteries. The boat and the RV need batteries to run. The truck has two heavy-duty batteries. Watches that get left behind have batteries. Weather stations that stay on the boat, go on the RV, or out on the patio at the house all use batteries. A couple clocks that are self-setting seem to eat batteries faster than regular clocks. Oh, and I could go on about resetting clocks between time zones and daylight savings/losings time. Ah, the scooters - one battery each, and they are getting a maintenance charge before they go back in the scooters. Every TV, sound system, satellite system - all those remotes need batteries. Cameras - and I like my camera - more batteries.
Oh sure, we tried rechargeable batteries in all those devices... they seem to last about 1/10 the time of a good ol' lithium battery.
I am damn tired of batteries. No, I can't live without 'em, I am just tired of messing with 'em.
We slept in, kinda. Being two hours off the local time zone means you aren't tired at bedtime, but you sure are when it's time to get up. The jacuzzi tub works great, the thing I missed most about being away from this house. Lunch out, followed by a trip to the store.... much better than the other way around. Joan messed with the fridge, and it seems to be cooling; good thing, since the fridge was bare (intentionally) and we didn't bring much in the way of food back with us.
Siding cleaned, hurricane shutters raised - the house feels light and airy.
The satellite TV set up took some messing with (technical term)... not sure if it was a new end on the outside or messing with cables on the inside, but that took the better part of an hour. Now we have cable and satellite, again.
Getting the scooters out was on the agenda, but it didn't happen. Mother Nature was having some fun with us today: 20º cooler than yesterday, with gusty winds. Occasional spits of rain... not enough to get you wet, just enough to make you feel like putting off any scooter activity. That's OK, the battery charger (there we go again) on the scooter batteries is set to slowly top them off... and they are getting close. Tomorrow. Maybe.
It was a gray ol' day. Until right before sunset...
Even at 20º cooler (71º), it was shorts and short-sleeve shirts for us today. Some of our Friday Harbor friends thought we were kidding when we said, "We should get back to Texas in October - just in time for another 'summer'."
