We took the scoots to breakfast - our favorite little breakfast and lunch only place, Manuel's. They have the best breakfast tortillas I've ever had. Going back there is definitely like coming home... Jay (son of the owner and a waiter) said, "Haven't seen you guys in a while, where you been?" We visited for a bit about summer here, summer in the Pacific Northwest, whales and dolphins. And the food was great; a breakfast tortilla that fills the plate. Joan gets French toast, for something sweet, and we share.
I wasn't ready to go back home, so we headed across the causeway. Beautiful water. VERY quiet on South Padre Island. We rode around a bit, just enjoying the warm weather and checking out what has changed on the island.
On the way home, I stopped for a couple photos. Halloween is a big deal here. This may be the only place that the city decorates the large median between traffic lanes with skeletons... skeletons on bikes, skeleton families, and this...
Kinda hard to see all the detail, but it is a skeleton sun tanning in a beach chair, a child skeleton playing in the sand, and a buzzard looking down on them from the Dead End sign. Someone has a sense of humor. In some parts of the country, someone would get their undies in a bunch over this; not here. Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a big deal, also.
On the swingbridge to our island, I stopped to take a photo...
Not a problem here, because the speed limit is 5 mph, and not much traffic. In this image, you are looking down the Intracoastal Waterway, across the Laguna Madre, with the highrises on South Padre Island (2 1/2 miles away) visible on the horizon.
Today is Date Day - I'm going to take my Honey to a movie, something we haven't done in months. Over the next few days, there will have to be some kayaking and beach time... the weather is warm and inviting, the summer crowds are gone, the winter crowds haven't arrived. Nice.
