Hey, it's good to be back home again...

50 Bonus points if you said, "John Denver."

About 570 miles today.  It was overcast, chilly and windy when we left (just before sun-up) this morning.  That overcast turned into rain, sometimes heavy.  A couple times, we had to slow down to 70 mph!  (The speed limit in west Texas is 80 mph.)

We rolled through San Antonio with no traffic slow-downs... good timing.  The gusty north winds turned to southerly headwinds as we turned south, through and ahead of the front.  It got warm... and humid.  The miles per gallon dropped about 10% with the headwind, but (sans heavy tow) Big Red didn't notice.  As we passed one semi, the driver decided to take his half all over the road... "Get around him - NOW!" came the command from the navigator.  I pushed the gas pedal to the floor, and Big Red immediately shot up to 95 mph as we soared past the offending truck.  A few other "Stupid Driver Tricks," but we're used to that in Texas.  It was a pretty uneventful day.

We stopped for a quick, but late, lunch at Weinerschnitzel in Robstown (north of Corpus Christi), then on to the Tropical Tip.  The temperature made it up to 92º in that stretch, but was down to a balmy 88º when we got our first view of the pretty turquoise water of the Laguna Madre.

We agreed to not be crazy about moving back in... that lasted about 5 minutes while we decided what really needed to get unloaded... I was thinking: guitars... someone else was thinking: shoes.  We just hauled it all in.

A walk around the house showed that it did fine while we were gone.  The exterior needs to be washed down and the palm tree by the driveway needs to be trimmed.  I may need to do a little work on the dock, and Joan tells me that the fridge may need a visit from the appliance repairman.  It's a house - just like a boat, it always needs something.

I know what I need: a couple days with nothing on the schedule.  Maybe I'll get the batteries back in the scooters and see if they'll fire up... in a day or two.

I did introduce the new Rainsong Shorty to the other Taylors (talking about guitars now)... they all played together nicely as I set up the music room.

Time for bed.

Thanks, Val. It's been months since anyone passed us on the right... yep, we're back in Texas. ;-)
